Giles Paints the Kitchen
Having completed his freshman year of college, Giles has moved on to his next project--painting the kitchen for me. He seems to be having a pleasant enough time, but did mention that the process was causing unfortunate flashbacks to Three-Dimensional Design (we watched with somewhat horrified fascination as he constructed a miniature Trojan horse out of popsicle sticks and hot glue; perhaps not the university's finest moment either).
Back to the kitchen--last year we painted all the cabinetry white, leaving the walls white and the trim a hydrangea blue. I'm ready to change that now for my favorite combination of deliciously colored walls and crisp white trim. So nice that the cabinets are already finished!
Still in the process of priming the blue trim, but tomorrow he begins on the best part: color. We've picked a delicate blue-green which will look wonderful with *all* shades of green vintage dishes. And red ones. And blue ones too.
(First two photos not by Giles. He's painting.)

OK, I am really confused. I thought Giles just picked out the college he was going to go to? How did he finish? Or does reading blogs so late at night make me brain dead?!!
Anna, I can't wait to see pictures of your kitchen. I'm getting ready to paint my kitchen a vintage willow green.
Looking forward to seeing your "new" kitchen.
Giles just finished his freshman year at the local college here in town. He spent the year taking general education requirements as well as some foundation courses for an art major. Now he's transferring to SCAD as a full-fledged sophomore!
I love to paint! Can't wait to see the final product :)
Painting sends us screaming...we painted our entire first house, inside and out from plaster board up. It was NOT fun! By the time we'd finished we had done a lifetime's worth!
Don't suppose Giles wants a painting trip to Australia?! I have some outdoor work that needs doing. We both look at it and move on to other things, desperate not to repeat the nightmare of our first house LOL.
I remember when my daughter was a design student at the University. I can't count how many three dimensional projects she had to make.
Her biggest problem was keeping them out of the hands of her little brother. :)
I would love to paint my cabinets. My house is over 30 years old and so are the cabinets. I hate to get rid of them painting sounds more fun. Can you give me any hints?
Blessings,
Renee
Can't wait to see your kitchen when the painting is done. I love color with crisp white trim. That is what we have all through our house and it makes me happy!
Love your blog and Giles really has talent! B.E.A.Utiful pics! This is my first time here. Came here via 'A Wise Woman Builds her Home'. Hope you don't mind - I've linked to you, I want to come back again soon! Don't know if you already are aware, but some of Grace Livingston Hill's books are in the public domain which means you can get them and read them for free. I'm just starting The Mystery of Mary. This is a good place to start -http://www.gutenberg.org/browse/authors/h#a2299
I had my bedroom that shade of blue and everything does indeed compliment well with it. My favorite is a rosey tented red and soft browns to mix with this shade of blue. We are renting now and I have white walls. I miss color.
:(
Could you give me the exact paint color and brand that you are using. I TRIED to paint my kitchen that color, but it came out too bright and too blue. So I'm going to have to try again. Thanks, Mona
Mona, I'll fill you in when I've found it myself! Giles is off to the hardware store for our second try on the right color--not too candyish, not too artifical or icy.
