English Muffins
Attempted English muffins for the first time today--what a thrill to see them coming off the griddle looking just like store-bought! I used all white flour for this first try, but if we like them enough to make them again, I'll do part white/part white next time.
Bella has promised to toast these, and fry ham to go in them, while I run intervals in the morning. Yum!

I bought a simple (the box promises!) Brother sewing machine today and I'm going to get a pattern and then start practicing and learning...hopefully...

Anna, would you mind posting the recipe? One of my very favourite indulgences (apart from croissants) for breakfast is to have a fruit & spice English muffin with real butter with a cup of tea.
Seems simple I know, but when we've run out of bread for toast and dh has bought them, I think they're marvellous!
BTW, is it you who has taken on the photography from Giles? I loved Giles' photos, but you (or whoever it is!!!) are doing a fabulous job. His talent is obviously inherited and natural!
They may look store bought but I'm sure they taste 1,000 times better! Thanks for the inspiration. I don't sew but I do make messes in the kitchen every day. I'll have to try my hand at English muffins soon! God bless.

Our pastor's wife has always made her own English muffins and hamburger buns. I have always wanted to try the English muffins! Did you use a vintage recipe or a more "modern" one?
Ah, running intervals -- something near and dear to my daughter's heart.......and her dog's. :o)

Those look wonderful! I've always wanted to try my hand at English muffins, now you've inspired me to give it a go. Did you use special rings to form them? Some of my cookbooks recommend using clean tuna fish cans as rings, but I'm always wondering how well it works.

Those do look great! I've made them with all whole wheat in the past, and they've worked fine.
English Muffins remind me of my dad. He would make huge batches of sourdough English muffins and freeze them. I may search out that recipe for you. Have a great day! I do really love your blog.

These look WONDERFUL!! I've only tried making English muffins one time and, sadly, they did not turn out. However, seeing this lovely photo has given me inspiration to definitely try again!!! Is there any chance you would share your recipe?? Pretty please? :)

Well, the recipe was all right but nothing too spectacular. I wanted more holes in my muffins--maybe I do need sourdough instead.
Intervals are where you run a fast quarter-mile, then a comfortable quarter, then a fast one, etc. til you think you're going to die. The best part of intervals is the moment right afterward when you realize that it's a full week before you have to do it again! It does help your speed though.
I stumbled upon your blog searching for a sourdough english muffin recipe that just uses the discard sourdough...I have almost of a pint of discard that I really need to find a use for!

Intervals, got to love them, or do we? Once a week I a do a modified version of intervals in that I sprint the straight-a-way stop- do say side leg raises or push ups, etc then straddle run the curves-stop- again more of leg raises, crunches, then sprint again the straight-a-way. Doing this for one mile, talk about wanting to die. This is after running 3 miles at a little above pace.
Continue good luck with your running.
My English Muffins had the same problem...not enough holes in them and the texture wasn't as chewy as store bought ones either. Let us know if you ever find a solution to the problem
