Someone Else's Crewelwork
I've just about concluded that the happiest thrifting find there is is a nice sample of crewelwork. I have yet to find the crewel piece that's so tacky it doesn't deserve the time of day. Because you can always take tacky and go *with* it, you know?
Gorgeous glowing colors on this one! I backed it in fuschia wool, and made big fat Aegean blue velvet piping around the pillow.
And it's in my shop!
I must report my best thrifted conversation, overheard as two elderly men poked through the bin of cassette tapes:
First man: Look here, it's Neil Diamond.
Second man: Oh yeah? I went to high school with him. He was always getting into trouble for writing songs in class. The teacher said, 'Neil, that songwriting's not going to get you anywhere.'
End of conversation.

The crewelwork is very nice, but the conversation is priceless!!
Ha! That's funny about Neil Diamond. I'm a Neil fan for some reason that I can't explain...
The pillow is beautiful!
Love your pillow and Neil Diamond.
I remember my mom making that exact pillow from a kit when I was a little girl. It sat on our couch. The pansy was unforgettable! Definitely pre 1978. Thanks for the happy memory:)
Beautiful crewelwork makes a beautiful pillow! Love the conversation too!
I love the pillow! I only wish it was in "my" colors so I could buy it :)
Went to your shop to look at the pillow - and it was sold already! It's beautiful!!
I love Neil Diamond. What a neat conversation to overhear!
I love Neil Diamond- no apologies!
And I adore crewel work - so textural and colorful. I wonder if it's hard to do . . .

I made this same pillow from a kit when I was a teenager in the 70's. I have no idea what happened to it, but you brought back the memory!
Neil Diamond--wow! And that crewelwork really is quite nice. Funny, I've had a thrifted piece for maybe ten years; I've intended to make it into a pillow but just never have...maybe I'll do it now!
Ooooh, I love that pillow! Just looked in your shop and it already sold :( You've given me ideas for some uses for my old linen collection though.
I can't bear to see someone's needlework abandoned in thrift stores. If I see crewel I always buy it - I've made pillows, tote bags, even seen it cut up and framed as "abstract" art. Neil Diamond, on the other hand? You would have to shoot me with a tranquilizer gun to get me to listen. ;)
