Velvet Housecoat: Retro Butterick 5152
Well, here's the tease--sink into that moonlight blue!
Daisy, unbelievably, found this satin-covered button in a tin of loose buttons my neighbor gave me last week. The color is an exact match.
Here's the reveal:
Can't decide if I'm going to eat this or wear it. It is so delicious. It is Christmas Eve made into fabric.

Wow! I love it! I am currently working on a dress for my 7 year old and it's alright, but I don't have your talent.
This is simply beautiful! Your sewing is such a vicarious thrill for me! :)
i think i can hear the theme to white christmas playing right now. if only i could wear such elegance nightly...without the drool & leftover food & snot that is attached to my current robe! :)
simply divine!
Isn't that lovely!!!! What a color, and yes, the button exactly the same! Do you have a staircase in the house, so you can sweep down it in a dramatic way, wearing that gown/robe?
Wow, it's absolutely beautiful!
Absolutley elegant.
now, are you really going to wear that as a housecoat?? It is so gorgeous and I see it enjoying an evening on town. or is that tacky?
Margo
That is an amazing housecoat!
Gorgeous! I love it! Make more and sell in the store.
It is lovely! My mom was a great seamstress. I am not.
Stunning. Just stunning. My vote would be to wear it though, no my how delicious it may look!!!!
Absolutely gorgeous! That color is simply beyond description, and the finished product is -- well, breathtaking! Kudos to Daisy for finding that button!
Yours in Christ,
Shannon
Fabulous, rich, lush!
I think that is one of the most beautiful pieces of clothing I have ever seen. Definitely looks like it's out of an old movie.
I'm so glad youposted about this pattern since I have it. Your results are outstanding! Love the shade of blue. Seeing it on the dressform makes me feel like it would look very nice as a housecoat/housedress in a shorter length. That's how I plan to make mine.
I would never get dressed if I had that to wear! :~}

Wow! Ditto to all of the above. De-lish!
Housecoat...or evening gown?
It is luscious.
This is simply gorgeous. I'm *completely* in love with it!
Wow. That's divine. I'm in awe of the button match.
I love it, looks like something Greer Garson or Hedy Lamarr would have worn !
Beautiful style - beautiful color. Nice to see a robe that doesn't look like a robe.
Just gorgeous. Is that cotton velvet or something else?
How are you getting along without your eldest? We sent our first to college this year too.
It makes me think of a 1940s movie. :)
Oh my goodness. That is just amazing.
Definitely eat it. :)
oNLY IN MY DREAMS COULD A PROJECT TURN OUT SO WELL.YOU SHOULD BE PROUD.
Oh how lovely!!
How GORGEOUS! I would wear it but definitely nibble on it throughout the day! It's amazing!! Prettiest thing you've ever made. But only because of my deep obsession with velvet.
Stunning! I bet it will look gorgeous, too, at Christmastime, lit by the tree.
That is really beautiful!! I love old patterns like that. It does remind me of Christmas. Enjoy :)
That is simply beautiful.
Oh my stars -- I love this -- gorgeous!

I love that you mentioned Christmas Eve! That's exactly what I thought of...as my grandmother used to have a similar ensemble that she would wear every year.
How beautiful and truly memorable. You need family photo shoot on Christmas eve, with you in this housecoat!
Oh, I'm so drooling over this housecoat!
Beautiful Work!
It is absolutely gorgeous!
Wow! That is so beautiful!! It looks wonderful!!
Oh my! Absolutely gorgeous, Anna. It's very Old Hollywood glamorous, and I think I'm coveting just a little bit. :)
It is beautiful!!!!
Beautiful! Simply beautiful!
That is truly beautiful.
Greta Garbo, eat your heart out. Love the robe!
Oh Anna,
The housecoat is beautiful. The color is gorgeous and the fabric does looks yummy. I like your comment about how delicious it looks. Smile.
Have a blessed day.
Peace,
Lynne in NC
How elegant.
Oh wow that is so beautiful
Simply lovely! It's a Tracy-Hepburn movie all wrapped up in a dress. Those were the days...
Oh my goodness, that is gorgeous! What a perfect Christmas dress...I wouldn't eat it because then it would be gone all in one bite...but at least if you wear it you can stretch out the lovliness for a while... =D
I can just see Rosemary Clooney or Vera-Ellen in White Christmas wearing that...
Anna,
It's gorgeous. I have the same pattern also, but have not yet made one. I was curious about the shoulder pads. Did you put them in your gown? I was wondering what would happen if I skipped them?

BEAUTIFUL!!!!
This is the fabric which you used to bind the crewel pillow, isn't it? :)
Wow! What a beauty!!! Any woman would be proud to wear this creation. I'm sure the color will look stunning on you as well.
WOW, and WOW again. It is so gorgeous.
Anna, I would love to know what fabric that is... Not only is that my favorite color, but I'm looking for the perfect fabric to make my daughter's first Christmas dress - and I don't want to do red or green... Would you mind passing along the name/color? Thanks!

My colour, my shape - would you ever consider making another one?
I'm going through Chemo at the moment have to wear a lot of house coats that can be 'practical' and and am so frustrated because once upon a time I could have made one for myself.
I can make the button with a 4" square of the material as I'm sure you can - but what a happy match, magic.
Kindest
Margaret
STUNNING! This fabric is the color of our Christmas lights which outlined our home as a child in the 70's...or at least the color which I remember them being. For me, Christmas colors are red, green and THIS blue, and you are the only other person that I have ever known to agree with this!
That is absolutely beautiful.. I wish I could sew half as well as you do. I haven't really gotten too serious about it until this year. My Halloween costumes barely made a passing grade. I will keep practicing. You are my inspiration!
that is the most beautiful dress ever...
Wow! Amazing colour- how long did it take you to make it? Thanks.
This is amazing! Do you fit these patterns or do you alter them? Magnificent!
