Vintage Bowling Dress in Wool: McCall 7734

There is something about this pattern cover that speaks to my heart. Look at those ladies sporting with such elegance!

I had to make this pattern up in a business-like wool. In a business-like color. It's very fine fabric, comfortable over a slip, and quite lightweight. I could so golf in this dress.

Although all I've tried doing so far is coughing (better now though!). I found that the deep action-pleated back works great during a really powerful coughing spell. You have room to truly work your lungs and abs.

And the ginormous pocket can hold tons of Kleenexes.

The covered buttons are just there to make you feel like you've got it all together.

This was my second time to make up this pattern. I took about an inch out of each shoulder width, and I am not a narrow girl. But I nailed the fit this time! Love that.

Wow, Anna! Good job!

What tickles me about this fabulous dress is that in the days when it was designed, it was "sportswear" - what was then considered casual. These days people would consider you "all dressed up" if you wear this!

Beautiful job!

I do admire your grit. I'm having difficulty getting round to hemming a pair of trousers with just an incipient tickle in my throat!

That is a great dress, Anna!

I love that women used to do just about everything in a dress! Now if you put on a dress or skirt, people think there is something special going on!

What a lovely, classic look Anna.
I'm glad you're getting over the cough. It seems to be making it's way around the country!!
Do you play golf? I keep thinking I ought to learn so my husband will have someone to golf with. I have a feeling it would be an exercise in frustration (judging from my prowess on the minature golf course).

Just beautiful as always, Anna! Love your choice of fabric. Congratulations on nailing the fit too!

I've joined you in the hacking and coughing department. I hope you are your old self again soon, though it is always good to test pleats for coughing room and pockets for Kleenex. ;)

Something about the pattern cover reminds me of illustrations from old Nancy Drew books! Your dress is lovely.

I love that you actually make the items in the vintage patterns. I just use the pattern envelopes and toss the patterns :(
