Counting Down with Chocolate
I dearly love chocolate Advent calendars (shades of my childhood when my uncle was stationed in Germany and sent them to us--to all of us--to all fourteen of us!) for Christmas. Last year I found some in the Vermont Country Store catalog, but hadn't run across them this year until serendipitously I stumbled on them at the military grocery store. I was lured there by a military wife who described the aisles full of Italian cookies and German candies and English biscuits. She did not speak in vain. I snapped these up and we've been counting down ever since.

This year my children got a Fair Trade chocolate calendar by Divine Chocolate. Each day's window has a part of the Christmas story to read and, behind the little flap, a chocolate heart - which, since there's one heart and two children, leads to some pretty unseasonal bickering, let me tell you.
Those are so sweet and quaint! I bought mine from the VT Country Store this year as well--sometime earlier in autumn. We always had them growing up, too, but not from Germany!
anna~ i sent you a private message about a christmas idea. did you get it?~xanga ecmollymadi (amy)
How kind of your Uncle to send 14 of them. I foolishly have tried to share one with 5 children(alternating days)...this might have worked, but the 1 and 4 year old got impatient while I wasn't home (Daddy was not paying attention) and hurried the Christmas season by eating all the chocolates at once. Everyone else cried "Foul Play!"

Wonderful way to count!
Anna- would you pray for my family and Little Beauty? Her court date is Dec. 12th and we need her papers to be ready and perfect. We want to hear...the judge say "approved and come get her." not "denied and wait several more months."
Thank you ...from the bottom of my aching heart.

What wonderful memories.
When my daughter was growing up, there was a cheese store in my hometown that sold chocolate advent calendars.
I would always stop by there when visiting to take back to where we were living at the time (as we moved to follow my husband's career).
I believe they were from Switzerland originally.
Counting the days with chocolate sounds wonderful!
NIIIIICE!
Yum! I love the Vermont Country Store.
I love the illustrations! We use a felt advent calendar someone made us years ago.
How fun. I purchased our son an advent chocolate calendar last year. He would rush to it every morning.
