Vintage Beach Frock: Hollywood 1333

Continuing my obsession with the purpose-driven vintage garment: the beach frock or beach coat. Imagine sporting this at the lake or pool. It sweeps the ground! Such drama . . . .

It buttons only through the midriff (check out the bottom right pattern illustration). That's so it can flutter in the breeze with sang froid.

I sewed mine from a thrifted cotton sheet, age unknown but condition good.

Beautiful. And you homeschool! However do you find time to create so much?! I can barely squeeze in a little knitting. Is having older children the key? Can I, too, look forward to dusting off the sewing machine I bought 3 years ago and actually learning to use it one day?

I love your creations!

Frankly, I think what most people wear to the beach is trashy. I see lots of glitter, hot pink nylon, cut offs. Now this, this is pure elegance and charm! Well done!

I love that you used a thrifted sheet for this. The color and the flowery design is perfect for this dress too.

That is a fabulous pattern, and your frock is lovely. That vintage sheet makes wonderful dress fabric, too. I think I may have to tell my estate-sale-addicted aunt to start keeping her eye out for such things. Your work is inspiring.

I love this dress. And your description of feeling the lake breeze reminded me of my days in Maine.
