Curtains in the Sewing Room
Still working on this delightful but hard to configure space. The sewing room now has its first curtains ever and they are so helpful for managing the extreme sunshine. Proving that simple and utilitarian can be the best, plain cotton canvas hung from clips looks, to my eye, like expensive linen! These took about five minutes to make as I simply did a narrow machine hem at the top and bottom and left the little fuzzy selvages alone. I love them!
Lagniappe in the form of a casually-constructed pincushion. My dress form is wearing the bedjacket; this is the waistband from the cotton sweater. I folded it in half the long way, rolled it up, and secured it with a pin. Perfectly handy!

Beautifully done Anna and that's very interesting for me. While I've been under the weather this week I've been thinking about some windows that need curtains. I am a beginner sewer...I think you have suggested a solution to me.

Anna, you are too clever - I've been waiting for a picture of your canvas curtains. I could not imagine such a thing! And your pincushion - I have to try and get my mind to work in that *simple* mode, too.
I think I would live in your sewing room. not really, very peaceful. Eventually, I would miss my husband and kids.

Perfect! I need curtains for my bedroom! And, I may just replace my living room ones, too. DH replaced the originals while I was out of town, and I'm still not thrilled with them, 8 months later.

The curtain looks great. Using dropcloths as curtains is another popular window treatment going through blogland at the moment.
Funny, we buy used sheets for the bed and to make clothes and then buy NEW dropcloths to make curtains. And yet, it all seems to make perfect sense to me.
I came across your blog not long ago. I love the simplivity of your posts and the vintage items. I just had to comment as I just hung canvas(painters drop cloths) in my front living room. So easy, cheap, and lovely!
I once used silk for a 'curtain', ripped the hem (the frayed edge looked cool and healed, and I didn't have to thread the sewing machine) and hung it from drapery clips with a pouf at the top. Sewing the edges is better, of course, but in a curtain emergency, the rip-clip method can do, too!
I've thought of using canvas for curtains...yours look really pretty!
And I absolutely LOVE your little pin cushion! :) I've gotta make one, and I don't even sew! ;)
