In the Vintage Kitchen: Dinner on Tuesday

Beef stew (seemed a little heavy for a summer supper but that never stopped the kids!)
Beets and their greens (believe it or not these are fought over at the table)
Blackberries with light cream (and I added chocolate chip cookies to the dessert plate)
• Took it upon myself to add a green salad to the menu since I made the stew without any additional vegetables.

We made bison stew last night...thought it was a little hot for that but husband gobbled it up!

Mmmm...beets (and their greens!)!!

Anna-
Please share your recipe for how you prepare your beets! They look delicious, but when I make them they taste horrid and their greens are terribly bitter! Thank you so much!

Sounds very homey and inviting!

Dawn, maybe you just have bad beets? Because my recipe is to put them in enough water to cover and boil until tender! I do buy organic beets, though, and maybe that helps--they absolutely taste like sugar!

Anna,
I just wanted to tell you that I made notes on a lot of the family recipes you have posted over the years (cookies, thai beef dish, chicken soup, chicken salad...lots of things). Thank you for encouraging me in my home. Enjoying my little ones. I really should email you a picture...my daughter (2) looks like your little daughter. Mary Brooke

Enjoying this series of posts...what a neat idea to get daily cooking inspiration!
Speaking of inspiration, I have linked to your quilting post on my blog, having been inspired to make a scrap quilt out of my daughter's outgrown clothes! (http://thinking-about-home.blogspot.com/2009/07/extreme-thrifting.html)

This looks delicious. I am really enjoying these posts. My only collection of "things" is cookbooks. What a great idea to plan menus straight from a favorite cookbook.

Oh, your presentation is stunning -as usual.

Anna-
That may be it! :) I think I will check out my local Whole Foods and try some of the beets from there. I think the last ones I prepared were from a neighbors garden??? Thank you again!

In Christ,
Dawn
