Sorting Out Felix

The day's been creeping up on my all summer. But, like the fearful pregnant woman who won't buy baby supplies for fear she'll put herself in labor, I hadn't done any shopping for Felix until tonight. Now he has just one more day at home before he leaves for his fall semester.

One day which we won't have to spend shopping, since we bought out Target tonight. The boy's ready. Some shiny shoes, new towels, a friendly little lamp, and forty pounds of snacks.

And just because I *must* sew in every situation, I cut the embroidered sections from his old worn-through pillowcases, turned under the edges, and machine-stitched the patches down on his new pillowcases for decoration. Ready? I think so.

I guess he's as ready as he'll ever be! But I know what you mean. As a Mother, we try to keep them close to us as long as possible. Wishing Felix great success in his endeavors!

Anna, It gives me a lump in my throat after reading your dear blog for a while. (Our oldest are boys, ages 7 and 5). The embriodery is wonderful. I bought some precious embroidered cases from etsy and she used a "Martha Stewart" case that is really nice. Mary-Brooke in Atlanta

Anna it must be terribly difficult in many ways, to send your children off to school after having homeschooled them and having them with you all the time.

I know I would find it nigh on impossible and find myself incredibly grateful that we live a mere public transport trip 'down the hill' to all the most wonderful universities that Melbourne has to offer...when the day comes.

Please wish Felix well from me, I didn't realise autumn term would start so soon. "I hope it's everything you are hoping for Felix. Regards, Rose in Oz"
And with that wake up call, i will look to my spring time seed sowing.

I have really enjoyed reading your posts. I check back each day to see what interesting things you are writing about. I have really enjoyed your photos and am inspired by your sewing projects. I wish for you long life and health, and I have prayed for you and Felix this morning. May the Lord bless and keep him as he goes off to school.

My daughter leaves in two weeks from Thursday, and she did her big Target trip ($230 worth!) this past weekend. I'm washing her comforter and new jersey sheets today. We, too, homeschooled through high school, and last year she was about 1200 miles away from home. Very hard (on me). :) This year she'll be about 2 hours away, so not so traumatic. But still a little sad.

I'm about 2 years from this happening with the oldest in my home . . . and I can already feel my chest tightening and my throat getting choked up. ::sigh:: This heart-ripping life of motherhood : )!!

The summer has gone far too quickly (although here in Texas it shows no signs of going anywhere any time soon).
The good-byes never get any easier. Enjoy this one more day at home!!

I'm a little over a week away from dropping off my oldest girl at college. 2 1/2 hours away. I'm going to miss her so much! So it's with bittersweet emotions that I read your post! Thank you for sharing your life!

Well, how exciting for Felix but sad for mom. I was wondering what is a residential school?
