Vintage Inspiration for Wives

"This house told more about Mrs. Parker than words ever could. Here were beautiful things . . . Beautiful things were here to be used.

In the midst of this loveliness there was comfort . . . People lived here and liked it.

Mary sensed that this pleasant atmosphere was not because of the lovely things in the house but because of Mrs. Parker herself. She understood now what Mrs. Parker gave [her husband] . . . how she surrounded her husband in his home with all the things in which he could rejoice. She realized now that Mrs. Parker was not just an older girl, for all her unquenchable youthfulness. She was a woman who understood and delighted in the task that was hers."

Oh that this should be said of me!

Ouch. Beautiful, but it strikes a nerve when I think about the general chaos things have been here lately (three children 5 and under, another on the way? Oh, yes, I can excuse almost anything....).
I may have to copy that down, and read it everyday, 'til its ingrained and as Rebekah said: "Oh that this should be said of me!"

Enjoyed...a good reminder to me. From a wife of 30 years, home school mom of 21 years and still parenting two of our six children.

Yes, thank you, Anna.
And, Bonnie, I tried to leave a msg on your blog, but didn't feel like getting a Blogger account tonight...but after seeing your profile our life situations are very similar (kids, location, home w/a few acres, etc.)
Ours kids are 6, 5, 3, 8 mo. They were 5 and under (for 6 wks. anyway) last summer. Anyway...might be fun to chat.

Again, "Oh that this should be said of me!" What a good reminder that I should be about my God-given task with more diligence than I have been.

Great quote. When I dread facing the housework and really need a push, I remind myself what a lovely man will come home this evening and how much I would like it to be nice for him.
