Little Gift Boxes

Somehow I was fully grown before I realized that people gave out favors at parties. Maybe they did it behind my back, and maybe that accounts for why I can never remember to provide them at our birthday parties.

In a fit of optimism several years ago I bought these pretty little favor boxes at Michael's. This summer I finally remembered to pull them out of the closet at Daisy's birthday. A victory of good manners.

Lovely! My favorite thing to give is little potted plants! Once I went really crazy and gave tiny cacti!

How utterly delightful to see you again!! We have just been through a rough few days, we had a 7.1 earthquake here in our corner of New Zealand, and we're all shaken and tired, and still enduring strong aftershocks. Amazingly our internet connection has held up and just reading blogs has provided some escape. I really need the grace and beauty of Pleasant View right now, so thank you for being here! :-)

They are lovely, and a belated (much belated) Happy Birthday to Daisy.

Those are so great! When our girls were little we always encouraged them to thank their birthday guests with goodie bags - It is in giving that we receive. They always had so much fun choosing and decorating the bags and deciding on the goodies to go in them.

In my experience, favors were only given at wedding receptions, bridal or baby showers. But it's certainly a nice idea.

What sweet favors!

Grown up girls like favors, too! Last year, I planned a surprise birthday party for my mom, complete with goodie bags filled with butterfly notepads, pens, bookmarks, and poems for each lady in attendance. They all loved receiving a little favor as they departed!

Anna, what? Have I missed something here? Am sitting here in mild confusion. I thought I'd clicked on an archived page or something. But no, it is September 2010 isn't it? She'd never gone to NY before. Am I reading this?? Are you back? I'll stop with questions now and happily whatever you blog about, whenever. A LOVELY bit of sunshine in my day. Thank you. Francine.

You're back! :)

I am so encouraged that someone else "forgets" little details. You have brightened my day in so many ways. Bless you!

then I must have missed the same thing because I never get or give favors at parties! At wedding receptions, yes. And now there are those dreadful goodie bags that my children get at their peers' parties - I guess this is considered a favor. But the bags are universally filled with junky candy and flimsy plastic junk. I'm sure your pretty boxes had a much nicer confection inside! I'm now considering doing something like this when my girl turns 5 this fall.
