Setting Up for Potluck

Maybe I always forget drinks (I do), but at least I have a lot, a lot of plates.

(And some recent good pot luck at the thrift store--witness the copper canister holding silverware. I now possess both the sugar and the flour containers.)

I laughed hard at this one. SO relate. I tend to forget items some people might consider critical like beverages or whatnot. Details, details. But hey, I always have pretty plates and the napkins match lol.

do you have a lot of glasses too? I love potlucks, but I wish most of them could use non-disposables like yours!

We're the only family that still uses real plates and silverware, but I use plastic cups - too many broken in the past (it makes the guests feel bad and that's not what I want to feel when they're just here to visit) Love your canister - such a pretty luster!

I love the green bowl also. My mother had a set of nesting bowls just like the green one. I am sure the potluck was a huge hit and lovely for the eyes too.

I think I remember a past post about these dishes. I think you found them in a junky store and had to dig some of them out of the ground?
I stopped into a place like that in Virginia about 18 years ago. I found 10 ironstone plates with blue flowers around the rim, and yes, some of mine were under some dirt! Best dishes I've ever had and have not broken a single one yet. Now I'll probably break one since I said that!

I've been seeing a ton of copper items in our thrift stores, too. Must be a new trend?

We stopped using paper plates after living on a moutain that did not have a trash collecting service, we had to take our own. This helped us learn to be 'green' before it was envogue! I recently purchased a whole stack of dishes from a hospital that was replaced by a newer building. I got them specifically for this purpose, potlucks and parties!

Love the plates! Homer Laughlin? Would you mind sharing the pattern?

P.S. You've come to mind as I've been enjoying a Grace Livingston Hill re-read binge. ;-)

Plates are by Shenango and don't have a name, just that perfect green border.
