A New Room for Daisy

Daisy has been a victim of a seismic shift--changing rooms registered an 8.2 on her emotional Richter scale. We had to ease into it, trying the bed and giving up and going back to the old room. Trying again and succeeding in sleeping. It got easier the more her sweet little things got settled in around her.

Now she has room for her dolls all to be together, her books to all be in a straight line. She has morning sunshine and floor space for her littlest pet shop friends.

At bedtime she can see the light shining in her window from the sewing room. She has a stepstool in her closet to reach the high shelves.

She has a desk.

It all makes such good sense, and she's only a tiny bit shaky at bedtime, wanting to be "checked on."

Of course.

All this adventure was made possible by Giles, who pointed out this fall that he doesn't need the biggest bed and one of the best downstairs rooms anymore. So Felix is in the green room, finally in a double bed---he's the tallest child now! And Daisy's little orange bedroom is empty and appointed as a guest room, with Giles' few things in the closet. He'll be a guest there in just two weeks . . . not that we're counting.

What a wonderful little room. She looks so adorable with her blanket and reading her books. I still can't quite figure out what she's doing with that little blanket, but it measures a 10 on the sweetness Richter scale with me! :)

I thought Felix would've wanted to keep the painting of his favourite toy? It's always hard to move from the safety of a cosy room to a larger more open space.

What a darling room! It will be nice once she gets used to it : ) I love the color on the walls!
I've just finished a couple new quilts for the beds in my boys room. It brings happy color to the room and it will keep them warm this winter too.

So sweet! I'm glad she is settling into her cozy room.
I was wondering if you could answer 2 questions...
1. I love the 2 dolls in pink shirts, I have been trying to find them but have no idea what they are called.
2. Did you make the rat (mice) dolls on the bottom shelf. They are adorable... to be a little girl again!
Thank you
Paula

I am curious and wonder if you will answer this question. In your pictures, the rooms are serene and with out clutter and "things" everywhere. But in some of your posts you show lots of China and different collections and thrifted things. How do you manage the clutter and how do you store your collections?

I thought you and Daisy, especially, this morning when I saw an eBay listing from one of my favorite vintage sellers: a 1947 girl's housecoat pattern!

Happy settling to Daisy!

Oh Anna! how sweet.
The photo of Daisy and her lovey in the reading chair bring a tear to my eye. She is such a sweet little lady. May her room bring her comfort and sweet memories.
Thanks for posting about this transition. I imagine that you all are counting down the days until your "guest" arrives from school.

It's amazing how hard change is for some kids, but Daisy's room is so cheerful. I'll bet it doesn't take long for it to feel just right!

The pictures of Daisy enjoying the comforts of her blanket make me sigh and smile. One of my daughters, now looking forward to the birth of her first child in a few months, did the same thing with her blanket when she was young. A book was usually nearby. Sweet memories.

What a beautiful "big girl" room!. So light and fresh. Lovely ;)

Paula, the dolls come from Pottery Barn Kids. I didn't make the mice, my mother gave them to Daisy. They do look handmade.

Jeannie, I am lucky to have a lot of storage built into my house. I also try to cull things regularly. I often enjoy a thrift store treasure for a while, then put it in my etsy shop to pass on. I really don't like things to be cluttered. It's too easy to go there, isn't it?

I love the picture of Daisy snuggling her blankie. My younger daughter had that blankie pose for years!...until her blankie was just a snarled bit of wispy threads. Precious times!

Her room is beautiful!

I love seeing those Little House books in her room. I remember those being the perfect books to read solo when I was 5-6: not too difficult, but big enough to feel like a real, grown-up book. And with lots of sweet little homey details to boot. Good taste, Miss Daisy!

We just moved last month, with 2 three year olds! It was so difficult for them, even though we were tried to ease them into it as you did with Daisy. Now they are settled in and happy to have more space, but every time they misplace something they claim that I left it at the old house! ;-) I guess it just goes to show how comfortable our children are with the routines and order we have established for them (although, I certainly can learn a few things from you! Moving only highlighted how much clutter I really have!)

Moving our children across the country last Spring created lots of needs to ease into their new bedrooms/surroundings etc... We love our new home and our new lives, but all of us needed reassurance and what I'll refer to for Daisy's sake as 'blankie' time. Change can be wonderful, but still hard...even when its for the best!

The room looks sweet! Enjoy having your firstborn at home for awhile. My oldest is considering going to Giles' school for film.
