Black and White Cupcakes

Many many teens headed my way tonight for dessert and games, so I made two kinds of cupcakes. A straightforward yellow cake recipe for the vanilla ones, to be topped at the last minute with fat clouds of sweetened whipped cream.

Standard chocolate cake made up with darkest cocoa for the black cupcakes, then Daisy's best efforts in chocolate chips.

Add an urn of hot cider and lots of decaff coffee, for beverages in both light and dark.

Oh Anna, you so inspire me and fill me with excitement and hope as my kiddos head into teens. (Currently, 14, 13, and almost 12). Something tells me I could learn so much just as a fly on your walls. You are blessed. :)

Anna, just a query regarding the cider. In the British Isles cider as we know it is most definitely alcoholic. Somehow it doesn't seem likely that you'd be serving alcohol in any significant amount to your teenage guests - could your clarify? Incidentally I don't have any issue with older teens being served alcohol in moderate amounts under the supervision of adults, in fact I think it's the best way for them to learn how to drink sensibly. I just didn't think it would be common in Evangelical Christian households. Absolutely love your blog. It's incredibly beautiful and unique. I love the restraint. Very soothing.

In the States, alcoholic cider is called "hard cider". Regular cider is simply apple juice that's been sweetened and spiced and is served hot. This was definitely the regular!

That's a good idea. And, like Sonja, I would dearly like to be a fly on your wall!! :)
