Twenty-Two Hours for Clara
Finals are over for everyone, at last. Clara had her first college finals (Freshman Composition and advanced Spanish) and got her grades today. 4.0!
This Spanish class was the best deal ever--it is a third-year class, for juniors, and any student is free to enroll in it who has adequate Spanish skills, without taking the beginning and intermediate years. Then, if they earn a high enough grade, the student gets the actual credit hours for the first four classes--a total of nineteen credit hours in Spanish! Clara loved the class, which had a fine teacher and attracted lots of native speakers who wanted that bonus credit. So besides working on her language skills, she met students from Uruguay, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and other points Latin.
Now, vacation. Then onwards and upwards after Christmas!

Congratulations to Clara for getting a 4.0 and getting 19 hours under her built for college with one class. Absolutely wonderful! That is the way to do college!
Graduate Exams are done here and so we are ready to do some baking and traveling. I hope Clara has something wonderful planned to celebrate her accomplishments also.

Congratulations to Clara! I struck the same deal in college many moons ago with German. I was able to buy 16 credits, I think, for $10 each. It was the BEST deal because I was able to graduate in 3 1/2 years and saved tons on tuition.
Well done to Clara! She must be tickled with herself.
My 14yo is pursuing Indonesian next year. It's the language Our School teaches and it is compulsory until the end of Yr8. She wants to do it through VCE, as it gives her the opportunity to boost her Uni ENTER score.
Anna, the 'link within' links at the bottom of this post reminded me of the 'Eating' course you did with Clara over the last school year.
I'd love to hear more about that and what you both learned from the study she/you did.

Clara's not actually done with high school yet, since she's only 15. We're calling this her junior year although next year she will probably be full time at the local university. And that will be her "senior" year before she picks out a real college--one with an excellent conservatory.
