Cheap Thrills
Total makeover for the sitting room simply by trading furniture with the living room. Which really fulfilled my entire wish list--it warmed up this room which tends to be chilly and unvisited in the winter, as we congregate around the fire in the living room. And I got all the white furniture free to fulfill my living room vision.
Giles and Felix and Owen got me this paper wasp's nest during Christmas break. Felix had to climb very, very high to cut it out. After the boys realized the air-soft guns weren't going to get the job done.
You're too polite to mention the crazy geranium mirror, aren't you? That was a pass-along from my mother. No way, was my first thought. Then I saw how it pulled everything together, and I counted myself lucky. And thrilled.

Oh, I couldn't tell what that was - a mirror! And how excellent it looks with the pillow on the gold chair, red rug, striped couch - great! A new home!

I agree, the room wouldn't have the same level of warmth without the mirror.
It looks good - I like the red and yellow, that's what we're slowly trying to do to our small, dark, grey-looking kitchen. It works.

Please tell me how you can photograph against the direct light of the window without the rest of the room turning out in darkness. I have a newish SLR and have been trying to take photos of our newly made chartreuse living room curtains. Years of point and shoot are not helping me now!
There is something wonderful about a newly painted room. Everything feels warm and fresh!

But I don't want to hurt the feelings of the rug and the gold chair, which I also am drawn to.

One winter we brought home a nest like that and as it warmed things came flying out. After all these years we still laugh when we retell the story.
Love it! The first thing I noticed was the mirror, and it really does pull the room together.
The mirror does look good with everything. And I love the wasp nest! I like most anything from nature, so we sometimes have messy bird's nest, cicada sheddings, etc. in our livingroom. Some people don't get it!
What a lovely room and I adore the geranium mirror! However, the wasp nest makes me cringe.
When Hurricane Ike was bearing down on Texas my husband and I brought in our porch furniture. After we carried in the baker's rack a short person (AKA a child) pointed out a wasp nest on the underside of the main shelf and every single crevice of that nest had a live wasp! 'Freaked out' doesn't even cover my reaction.

There will probably? undoubtedly? be grubs in that nest, and they will wake up in the warmth of your house. Please be careful!

I love the walls. You can still see the saw marks in the wood. I want that for my house.
Be careful with the wasp/hornet nest.... there may be a few that hatch in the house. I once brought one in my classroom and opened the door one morning to find several hornets buzzing around the room.
Is that a checked pattern on the couch? Pardon me, it looked stripey to me - but it's all very nice, whatever it is.
