Columbines

I can't get the fancy columbines to grow, but these humble, unimproved ones seed freely in my shady beds.

Very pretty.... it's snowing here in Iowa, and making me wonder if spring will ever be here.....

Columbines are my favorite! Every year I try a couple of different varieties from seed. Right now I don't have the red and yellow ones, but they are so sweet.

Lovely! In my garden, the columbines are just poking through the ground, and it will be just a few more weeks before I have a vase full of them in my kitchen!

I remember those from my childhood, never reized they were Columbine. Didn't we call them Jack in the Pulpit? I also remember picking bouquets of blue Lupine, white Daisies & orange spotted Tiger Lillies. I miss those wild flowers!

After spending part of my childhood in CO, I have a special love of columbines! They are stunning. I love the ones you are growing- understated, but still unmistakably columbine.

Lucky you! They're prettier anyway!

I love Columbines. I have never grown any though, I guess I am paranoid that I will kill them in my finicky soil.

On another note I saw these Ornithology themed Easter eggs and thought of Felix- http://blog.imaginechildhood.com/imagine-childhood/2011/04/-eggs-for-ornithology.html
