A sweet reader tucked this vintage kitten fabric into a package for me last year, asking me to share a picture if I made something from it. I will! It took me a good long time to make up my mind to use it up. That's the nature of an excellent piece of stash. You have to own it for a while first. Then you can cut into it.
So, two identical summer nighties for Daisy, long enough to brush her little ankles, printed with *singing kittens*, and trimmed in ancient yellow crocheted trim off a thrift store shelf.
Thank you so much, Kelly M!
Aww, it's so cute! Makes me want to go thrift store shopping so I can find some vintage pillow cases and make some for my daughter.
ReplyDeleteI agree about the stash, sometimes I buy something knowing exactly what it's for and other times it just sits there until inspiration hits.
That has to be the cutest nightgown I've ever seen! At age 50, I'd wear the dear thing!
ReplyDeleteSo adorable!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure I remember this fabric from my childhood -- could it be fifty years old? I'll best Daisy loves her summer nighties.
ReplyDeleteLove it! Just 2 Qt!
ReplyDeleteInspiring! Half the fun of having a stash is the gazing at tempting fabrics and pondering and pondering... I love the classic, little-girlness of the nightie!
ReplyDeleteOh I love it, love it! Exactly what a little girl's nightgown should look like! My 8 yr old granddaughter would love it, too, as she only wears nightgowns (no pj's for her!) and loves kittens!
ReplyDeletePerfect!
ReplyDeleteLisateresa
adorable!!
ReplyDelete(and now I know that I just need to wait a little longer to use some of my lovely fabric)
Singing kittens! I love it!
ReplyDeleteThe nightgown is just sweetness itself. I'm sure Daisy will love them so much.
What a sweet gift from your reader to you to Daisy and to us!
Absolutely darling! So glad you shared! Such a thoughtful gift from your reader.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first saw the picture, while waiting for the rest of the post to load, I thought maybe it might be for your Etsy shop, and thought, Oh, I hope it's still there! What a lucky little girl is your Daisy!
I would love to go to the thrift shops with you and see the potential in things that you do. Hey, a Thrifting Guided Tour! Kinda like the quilt shop hops! :-)
If you ever make your way to the Pacific Northwest, you'd be sooooo welcome to stay in my guest room/sewing studio! I'd serve breakfast in bed and high tea in the afternoon! And we could shop in between!
So adorable!! Now I want to start sewing up some new summer nightgowns for my little girl!
ReplyDeleteWould you tell me if you used a pattern for something simple like this?
ReplyDeleteThanks Anna, I so appreciate your blog!
Victoria
Very sweet!
ReplyDeleteWhen the picture started loading for this, I thought, "Wow, I have fabric just like that from my Great-Aunt's house!" And then I read a little further and saw that I had sent it to you! Well, that was a wonderful idea I had because I did always wonder what you would do with those kittens, and I still have a some of the pink kind. I'm sure Daisy can't fail but have fluffy kittens filled dreams while wearing it. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd the Rose who wondered if it might be 50 years old, it is indeed very possible.
LOVE LOVE LOVE these! So precious, I'd wear one!
ReplyDeleteKelly, I hate to break it to you, but you sent me the pink too, and it's a pillowcase on Daisy's bed now!! Thanks for making me laugh!! And thanks again for the fabric.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, there was a small remnant of pink kittens that I kept. I can see it in my daughter's room so I know I'm not imagining it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet nightgown, looks perfect for the weather we've had here...80s at night...and rather humid.
ReplyDeleteMy sister pointed me in the direction of your blog and I really like it. We are homeschoolers, too. My dad is a priest suffering with Parkinson's disease, but God is giving him strength to grow spiritually, during this difficult time.
I am an artist. I earned a BFA (focusing on painting and also love drawing) in college. So, seeing your son's drawings really mean a lot to me...I remember those days and hope to be more creative. His birds are beautiful!
I've heard that with some fabric in your stash, acquired just because you love it and not because you already have a project in mind... you have to wait for it to tell you what it wants to be. :) And I think you were listening well to this fabric, I can't imagine it being anything else! It's adorable!
