Alabama Studio Style: The Sharpie
A $2 stencil from Hobby Lobby, a Sharpie permanent marker, and some cotton jersey from a friend. Way more than the sum of its parts by the time I finish this dress for Bella.

I've been lurking for, oh, forever, and I'm finally commenting. My sister hosted my baby shower and set a bunch of onesies out with sharpies for people to decorate them as they pleased...and I found out that sharpie runs in the wash. You might consider getting laundry markers or laundry-safe sharpies.
I think that's what I used--boy, I hope so!

I used a regular Sharpie to draw pictures on my son's plain white undies - didn't want the cheesy licensed characters, but I thought potty training would be more fun if he was wearing ice cream cones, buses, and his name.
My Sharpie drawings were not as dark as yours and just faded in the wash, did not run. However, I was drawing on knit with a little ribbing in it, so my drawings were not as evenly colored to begin with.
Please do let us know how it washes and wears, because WOW there are some creative possibilities here!
I have used sharpie markers on my tiedye. You have to heat set it, be it a dryer or iron. I haven't had a problem, yet ;). It does fade but adds a nice look.
I cannot wait to see that dress! That color will look so beautiful on Bella. Your Alabama Studio Style projects are so pretty. You have embellished them just right, and have not gone overboard. More pictures please!
I just purchased a 6(?) pack of Dritz permanent fabric markers in the quilting section at Joann's on Monday. They have them on sale for 40% or 50% off right now. Now you've given me a terrific idea to try! Thanks Anna. : )
The Sharpie website said to hit your dry design with a hot iron to set it and then just make sure to wash your garment in cold water.
It's a lovely design...can't wait to see the finished product!
