"The Familiar Task of Making Biscuits"

"She went about the familiar task of making biscuits. The feel of the flour and golden butter as she worked them together the big mixing bowl was good again . . . .

She smiled dreamily as she measured the water, ice cold from the spring in the back yard, and stirred her batter daintily with a silver knife, touching it lightly as if she were weaving a charm over it."

This is lovely. A passage to tuck in my proverbial apron pocket for today. Thank you for sharing.

ooh that's a nice passage. If I could only think like this when I am doing daily tasks. :)

That makes me smile! Thanks.

Do you have a favorite title from her extensive writings? I've never read any of hers and I was just wondering what would be a good one to start with.

Thanks!

Love the quote. I made the best biscuits the other day, tall and nice and flaky....the fresh baking powder made such a difference. I use half shortening and half butter in mine, too.

Since you mentioned biscuits I must share a little tip I stumbled over quite by accident. If you're making biscuit mix (say for camping) and don't want to use vegetable shortening you can try using palm oil. It's sold in Whole Foods as a vegetable shortening, but it's non-hydrogenated. I mixed powdered whole milk into my mix and then added water and dried blueberries in camp to make blueberry flapjacks. Very scrumptious trail breakfast :)
