A Dress for Down Time: Victoria Jones 001
You know how sometimes it's too early for bed but you really just want to float around in something undemanding? Like yoga pants, only not. Like a lounge dress.
Victoria Jones designs Hawaiian dresses--so not me, but somehow I just wanted to, so I did. This was too much fun to sew, it was an overachieving dressmaker's dream, with tucks and gathers and inset bands and ruffles.
I used a thrifted cotton sheet for the main body of the dress, and purchased voile embroidered with hibiscus blossoms for my contrast. A little nod to Hawaii.
I'm actually wearing it right this second. I'm lounging. And probably will again.

I actually had a dress styled very similarly to this when I was in 8th grade--back in the mid-80's. I don't know what happened to it, but I always liked it. Thanks for the memory trip back!

On Sunday afternoons my mom and I say to each other, "Well, did you take off your corset and put on something comfortable?" This dress would be just the ticket.

I noticed your dress form on the close-up picture. Did you make one of those "personalized" ones where you wrap yourself in layer of ductape? I thought I could see strips of tape in that picture. If so what it hard? How many people did it take? Any tips?
Is there anything you cannot sew? It looks glorious - beautiful colours.
Sandy, I have a dress form that I covered with a personalizied duct tape shell. It just took one person to wrap the tape over my tee shirt then cut me out--it's not a fun process but it's very useful. I just put that over the dress form.

Even more delightful than the lovely lounge dress you sewed is the description of the duct tape shell creation. I am sure it was NOT fun for you, but the thought of ensuing entertainment at my house if WE tried it on one of my teens... well... I'm still smiling! ;-)
