Clara Begins Her Last Times

The real last times won't come until August, but already some of her Life Til Now is wrapping up.

Last symphony concert this weekend. For six years the Composer has been taking her every month to Sunday afternoon concerts. They've had the same seats down near the front, near the too-loud theatrical lady who warbles and coos over the soloists. But they just went to the last performance.

Next year she'll be in a different place, different concerts. Same red shoes, I hope.

It seems like the whole of motherhood could be characterised by 'firsts' and then 'lasts'. I was reminded of this today when a work friend visited with her newborn little boy...and there was my boy standing next to me, nearly looking me in the eye. How did that happen?!

I love Clara's red shoes. I noticed them before I read the comment.

Life is full of this bittersweetness isn't it…

Clara is so lovely.

She is beautiful.

It is wonderful (if bittersweet) when our children become adults and we see how they are the kind of people we want to spend time with.

My husband had a very difficult time when our daughter moved out for college even though she was in the same town!

She was... and is... daddy's little girl.

She looks like she is a lovely young lady. When I started reading here she was still a girl!

I remember my own season of lasts--what a poignant post. Makes me teary-eyed, actually, to read and to think backwards to then and forwards to when my children are her age.

I'm already bemoaning the fact that my son is growing out of his toddler bed and will need a twin bed soon. I can't imagine what it will be like to go through last performances and games as a mom. I did it as a kid, and of course it was pretty exciting despite being bittersweet because college and the great unknown lay beyond. But as a parent what awaits us all eventually is an empty nest. But maybe when he's a teenager, I'll be ready for it. :)

Hoo-ray for daddies who faithfully do those extraordinary things which become embedded in our girls' hearts and point them to their Heavenly Father's heart! Way to go Composer!!
My own bittersweet moment this Sunday: the 7 year old brother holding the 17 year old brother's hand in church and claiming his lap to sleep on when the sermon got a little drowsy...Almost too much for a mama's heart to bear!
Waiting for final university choice to be made. Gulp.

How good and wise it is to recognize and cherish the beginning and ending of "times". It is like we get a faint glimpse of the eternal "now" of Heaven and see how rich and blessed each moment is.

These photos of Clara are so lovely - she is so graceful and a picture of true femininity. Love the hairstyle!

Clara, you are stunning and poised and lovely. And I must say, as a tall gal myself, way to embrace the heels :)

Will she be in visiting distance during the semesters, or will it be more of a trek for the occasional Saturday picnic?

She'll be a full day away--only home for holidays. We'll probably have to go and see her though, opera and excellent fabric shopping will be nearby.

Oh, Anna, she is SO beautiful and graceful. So happy for you. How things have changed in your family these last couple of years! Best wishes for her journey! I always enjoy reading your blog!

Lovely pictures, especially the first one. You should get that framed! It's hard to believe how quickly she has grown up!

She looks lovely & graceful, Anna. And that first photo is so contemplative, as she gazes out the window. We don't get to see her face, but we are allowed to guess at her thoughts. Good luck in your future, Clara!

Itseems parenting is full of first and lasts, we love them all, some seem more bittersweet than others. I am sure tis is one of those times. She is a beautiful girl and I am sure you are proud of her and her next chapter in life

She is lovely. When I first started reading your blog, Daisy was was a tiny thing, Clara was a young girl, and Bella didn't think you should wear aprons on errands to town. They grow up so fast! It's a blessing to take a breath, and catch the beauty of the moment that Is.
