Evening Graze

Daisy's looking after two new goats now. She still has Luscious Kandy, but Sinnamon has gone home and in her place we have Summer Diamond and Cocoa. Phylllis is using Daisy to civilize the babies. They come here rather wild, not used to being handled, and hating the leash.

After a week in Daisy's custody they accept kisses on the nose, allow belly-scratching, and are comfortable enough with the leash that she can take all three out at once by herself.

She likes company, though, so she can talk about how cute and sweet the goats are. And so that we can cut the armfuls of brush and branches that must be thrown in the pen daily for the goats to eat when they aren't out grazing.

So the evening graze is sometimes a family affair, with Fitzwilliam keeping an eye on things from the corner.

  1. Daisy must have a certain way with animals. She must be very kind. Gorgeous photos.

  2. Wow. That's pretty amazingly idyllic. Love that Daisy has such found such a cozy and useful occupation and that the little goats are getting so much love from her. Those shots are positively dreamy.

  3. So sweet. Makes me miss my goatee girls. Maybe after our littlest is not so little we can get them back. But for now I'll enjoy your photos.

  4. What fun for Daisy. My brothers and I also took care of our neighbors goats when we were teens. They lived in a small backyard plot and had to be walked on leashes. I remember being told that I always needed to attach the leash at the front of the collar, or they would literally pull and pull against the leash until they choked themselves and passed out. They sure were cute though!

  5. Daisy reminds me of our youngest (she is now almost 17) that we called the animal whisperer. She could handle any animal, and they all ended up loving her. She still has the special touch. I'm sure Miss Daisy will, too.

  6. How adorable! The names are so cute. Is she still reporting on her adventures with the goats?

  7. Farrah, she's changed her focus to "how-to" material about goats!

Karen, it cracks me up that Daisy is very wary of dogs, even the tiniest ones, but doesn't mind these goats.

  11. Lovely lovely pictures! Looks so idyllic. Our youngest was always so wonderful with animals also, still is (she is 18 now) But she had such a way ... still... What fun for Daisy to have the opportunity to do this

  12. And only your family could make goats grazing look effortlessly chic! Without any of the baggage that normally comes attached to that phrase. Fitzwilliam is the cherry on the cake, but Daisy is in the centre, of course.
