She Winds Yarn

An easy finals week for Clara means starting a new lace knitting project. A shawl out of this beautiful blue merino. A mile of it in a a hand-sized ball.

Dress is the long version from Alabama Studio Sewing + Design, with cap sleeves added.

She's just so elegant this Clara of yours! Honestly every picture of her depicts calm and tranquillity. I bet you if someone took a picture of me winding yarn there'd be bits of it everywhere and I'd be the picture of frustration!

Honey, you and me both.

Yarn swifts are on sale at KnitPicks, if you're looking for an excellent gift for a knitter. :)

Where did you find the material for this beautiful dress?
I've had difficulty finding knit that isn't black or bright colored?
Such a lovely lady...

The dress is so lovely - and looks like it was made for Clara (um, no pun intended!) I've done the yarn-over-a-chair thing for many a project. I like Clara's method. My gift of a yarn swift and ball wind one birthday ranks right up there among the best knitting gifts ever.
Good luck to Clara on the shawl!

Andrea, this knit was a crazy find at Hancock's--$2 a yard on a bolt stuck on the back clearance wall in all the polyester. It's cotton, though! The color is just a little dull for me, but it's GREAT practice fabric. And so comfortable.

Interestingly, having made myself a perfect-fitting dress out of this knit, I turned to some classic t-shirt jersey for the next dress, and it turned out substantially smaller. As in, I'm giving the dress to Clara. This particular olive knit must have lots more stretch to it.

I am looking at cotton knit at Mood fabric online, and also thinking about buying ready-to-dye white and going for it myself.

I love the idea of dying my own!! Every year, when the kids and I make jelly, I threaten to toss some white cloth into the mulberry juice! There are always such beautiful colors during canning season!

Do your girls only wear dresses?

Anna said...

Angie, they wear don't wear only dresses. They do like them and prefer them usually, though.

I am not sure you will see this after all these months but I am wondering... what finals was your daughter taking? Did she take additional classes outside of homeschool? I'm looking ahead and wondering what to prepare for.

Hi Cyndi! Clara was going full time to our local university, living at home, still classified as a "homeschooler" who was taking supplemental classes. Then we said she graduated, and she went on to a different college.
