Daisy and the Loom
Daisy visited a weaving demonstration while we were out on one of our summer adventures in July. Seeing that this place had a little loom where anyone could sit down and have a try with the shuttle, she immediately commandeered the seat and had to be dragged away after a solid half hour of very nice weaving.
Then we remembered that my mother has a very similar loom and hasn't been using it lately, and we thought she might lend it to us.
We picked it up yesterday, brought it home, and got the Composer to tighten a few loose bolts, then wound the shuttle with some thread and let Daisy go. After weaving eight new inches of fabric* she was ready for a swim, but it seems that this, for now, is definitely Her Thing.
* Lest anyone think that this eight-year old has supernatural powers, I should note that the weft threads (is that right?) were already strung on the loom for action.

Yay for Daisy and her new craft!
I picked up a tabletop rigid heddle loom a year ago because I thought it sounded like fun and a good way to use up some of my yarn stash. It is and it was.
Her weaving looks very nice and believe me, that is not easy to do! Most impressed, Miss Daisy!
I used to weave and lost my loom in a fire years back...I have been watching to see if I can find one again to get back into it.

"Weft goes right to left!" or so a teacher once taught me. But if you call it the "woof" all mnemonic bets are off!
I have to add here that I have always wanted to weave. Of course I need room for a loom ;)
That is so great! This especially resonates with me Anna as, not too long ago, I lost a friend to cancer who was only in her fifties. She was a great lover of fabric and especially adored to weave and she made stunning fabrics. Seeing Daisy weaving reminds me that the wheel of life really does turn.

I have a rigid heddle loom, and find weaving a very relaxing and enjoyable craft. I've mostly made scarves and wraps so far (some bridal wraps in soft-as-a-bunny wool for a friend's winter wedding) but I'd like to do some finer weaving now and make my own tea towels and fabric.
My loom rests against a table at the back and on my knee at the front, and it can hang flat on the wall for storage. It's the ideal activity to do while having cosy chats or watching 'Pride and Prejudice' for the umpteenth time.
To remember which is warp think Star Trek. The warp threads go out away from you at "warp" speed. :)
