I've wondered about the bamboo and rayon jerseys. I bought some supposedly mid-weight cotton jersey from Mood Fabrics, but it hasn't the nice weight of the Alabama Chanin jersey. Nice color, but a disappointment otherwise. But the AC jersey also went up two dollars a yard recently.

Love the idea of using rocks to weigh down patterns!I usually use books but that doesn't work on smaller pieces.
Sadly, the synthetics have won.
Soon, good cotton jersey will be called "artisan" something.

I've actually found cotton jersey at JoAnn Fabrics but they only have a limited selection. You would probably have better luck online. Mood is a good resource, but I've found that a lot of their jersey fabrics are blends also, with silk or spandex. If you come across a good source, please let us know!
Why do you weight it? Is it instead of pinning?

I've bought cotton jersey from GirlCharlee.com but I'm not sure yet what I think about the quality. I just don't know when you buy something, (RTW or fabric) how to tell if the fabric will hold up nicely over time. If one is going to put so many hours into sewing up / embellishing a garment - it'd be kinda nice to know the fabric is worth it. Which is probably why AC can sell their fabric for $20 a yard : / even I have considered buying some ;-) and I would NEVER spend that much money on clothes.
I've always use butter knives as weights, but your rocks are so much prettier.
Yes, the weighing replaces pinning. This way you don't distort the fabric by pinning into it, and you don't cause any snags or pinholes in the jersey. It's also faster!
My mom always used butter knives, too. That's one of the things that I always disliked about sewing was pinning the pattern. I will have to go back to using weights. Can't wait to see your new creation here, and the slipcovering you're doing. That intimidates me, but I have three pieces of furniture that need slipcovers. Maybe I should just dive right in.
I have had a tough time finding %100 cotton jersey too! I have been scavenging the local Salvation Army for 2xl t-shirts to make the tops in. I did order 2 yards of the Chaning cotton which is super soft! The other cotton jersey I found was from a company online "organic cottons". I am still waiting to receive my order.
