Jersey at Last

I have at last spent the two gift certificates my children gave me to Alabama Chanin. Here are my yardages in Carmine, Turquoise, and Denim, waiting to be made into things that are beautiful.

What a treat!!

Pretty colors! I will be interested to hear how you like the all-cotton jersey compared to the rest.

I bought some turquoise and made a top. It didn't look well on me. I bought some light gray, made a different top. It didn't look well on me! I have some apple red - I'm going to take a breather. :D Patience! I guess I don't know what looks well on me, but this is gonna make me learn it!

Lisa, is it the color or the cut you don't like?

Oh, I love the fabric - it's so substantial! As for their designs, I haven't tried them yet. I was using two different regular sewing patterns for knit tops; I used some Alabama Chanin stitching techniques and really enjoyed doing it. Alas, the tops just don't look good on me! So, the problem isn't Alabama.

I won't give up. ;-) I wish to heck somebody else made that nice knit, though. The stuff I got from Mood is definitely thinner.

I just re-read your question - I have no problem with the colors I bought. It seems that I suddenly don't know what styles suit me best. :O

Oooooh!!!! fabulous!! How many yards of each did you get? How does it compare to the fabric from Hancocks? (Interestingly, my Hancocks doesn't have jersey. lots of interlock , but no jersey that I've been able to locate.)

Lisa - try the top from the 2nd book (raising the neckline, of course ;-) I think that would be a flattering style on pretty much everyone. I find the bottom flares a bit more than I prefer, so I trimmed my pattern down a bit.

I got three yards each of the turquoise and red, and two of the blue (thinking skirt). I haven't even unfolded it yet! I'm still enjoying looking at it :) and busy with other projects.

Thanks for the tip, Momma - I was avoiding using her designs because I don't like fitted clothing, but I'm not doing so well with other patterns, so I may as well try one of hers!

love your stuff! I just recently found out about Alabama Chanin and loooove her stuff, her patterns, her philosophy, everything! I have now made a bolero, a fitted top, a fitted short dress, mitts, hats and a poncho. I am currently working on a heavily embellished fitted top. Her patterns are so flattering!
