Please Look After This Bear

He's leaving this weekend for a semester in (darkest) Peru. He'll be staying in Cusco, the city in the mountains that's closest to Machu Picchu, living with a local family, and studying at a language institute: Spanish, Quechua, Latin American history and literature. And then there's the little matter of South American birds.

Today he went to the clinic and got his hep A and yellow fever vaccinations--or, as he put it, uploaded a new defense program into his system with a flash drive--and now he's complaining that his data port is kind of achey.

The Lord bless you and keep you, Felix! The Lord make His face to shine on you and be gracious to you, the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace.

What a lovely post! Good luck Felix. I hope you enjoy yourself as much as Paddington did.

How exciting for your son! My son and his fiance went to Cusco and Machu Picchu last summer. They were only there for a week, but really enjoyed the sights and food. The only problem they encountered was elevation sickness. Maybe your son will have a longer time to acclimate.

The very best of luck to Felix! What an exciting time for him. My daughter completed her first semester in Spain, & will head back in May. I'm so pleased for her, her acceleration in her skills with the language that the time there gave her, experiencing the culture....everything! Godspeed, Felix! You'll do great.

Oh my, this made me laugh out loud. "Now he is complaining that his data port is kind of achey."
He has quite an adventure ahead... My sister learned some Quechua, but not much, and I don't know how much she reembers... and South America is so, so far away for us.

Greetings from an avid reader in Lima, Peru! The diversity this country has to offer will be a great educational as well as personal experience for Felix. Please let me know if there is any way in which I can be helpful. I frequently do volunteer work in Cusco. And yes, bird-watching in the rain forest is beyond amazing…

We have been to Cusco and to Machu Picchu, which is some distance away and at a lower altitude. He will have a wonderful time once he adjusts to the altitude. The Peruvian people are so kind. What an opportunity!
