Daisy's Beetles

David was over swimming with Daisy today, and they sorted through the skimmer baskets as usual looking for whatever, including several of these brilliant beetles. Frankly I was surprised when Daisy fished them out and (not so surprising) mounted them on felt-lined boards in pink and blue.

David is good for her; he brings out the bug-handling, water-gun-toting, pretend-burgling side of Daisy we wouldn't see otherwise.

Daisy and David may be interested in Australian Christmas beetles -- yes, they come at Christmas.

Looks like a "June Bug" although a little hard to tell upside down. When we were kids we would catch them alive...not an easy task but run like the wind when they land in the grass and trap them...then tie sewing thread from a spool around their squirming back leg and hang on to the spool. You then have your own personal living helicopter flying around you! After kid and beetle got tired, we let them go until another day. What fun we had...

Fear has no place when one is with a 'partner in crime'. At least that was the motto of my older brothers and I;-) I know they are not getting into trouble, but for some odd reason David reminded me of my brothers. Always encouraging me to try something, something my mom did not believe 'young ladies' should be doing....including coming home covered in dirt. Not to worry, she lighten up real fast with the grandkids.

blessings, jill

I'm glad they're having a fun summer.

I hate to say it but that looks a lot like a Japanese beetle to me. Killed a bunch of them off my roses before church this morning. I hope you don't have them...
