A Loose Rubric for Recovery
Recovery from this flu has been like crawling back to normal. As I regain my ability to live my usual life, I'm following a loose rubric each day rather than a to-do list. I try to do each of these, as big or as little as I feel up to. By evening, I feel I've lived as well as I can.
* Clean something.
* Cook something.
* Plan something.
* Read something.
* Write something.
* Fix something.
* Sew something.
* Serve someone.

This list is awesome. I hope you feel back to normal soon!
A very good plan indeed.
Hope you feel better every day, Anna - blessings for a full recovery!
I had the flu last year, over Christmas holiday, and it was the most disheartening thing to a. feel so completely horrible and fatigued, and b. have the fatigue continue after the symptoms had finally gone.
But slowly you return to your previous level of energy and it is such a good feeling. Good that you are being easy on yourself.
This Christmas I kept saying out loud "Thank you God that I'm not sick!" I am grateful.
Gosh Anna, this isn't like you. I hope you are much better very soon.
I feel your pain Anna. The flu this season knocked the stuffing out of me too! Will be praying for your recovery.
So glad you are beginning to feel better. Your list is a good one for everyday.
I had influenza once in my early twenties. It took so long to get strength back; but you exercise a lot, Anna - you'll get there!

With or without the flu that's a good model for any day. Even quite an ambitious one I'd say. I hope you are feeling stronger every day. I have been visiting for quite a while now and appreciate your constancy.
Very wise words inDEED~!

This list is a good outline for the first trimester (or last one!) of pregnancy :)
I hope you continue to feel better, thank you for your lovely posts!
I always start my day with a list,but this Rubric that you are using seems much more purposeful.Thank you for teaching an old dog a new trick.....get well
I often read your blog but have never commented. I find your blog very peaceful in a way. So thanks . I wanted to especially thank you for your rubric. It was just what I needed. I am not been ill, but have been struggling mightily with a sense of being overwhelmed. I do not sew, so I removed that. I am a teacher so I substituted 'grade something' I copied it on a notecard and hung it on the fridge. So very helpful to look back over the day and think Gosh I did all of those things
I really appreciate your blog
I like this list, do you try to follow it even when you are not sick? I can't say that I fix something every day, but it would probably be better if I did!
I'm really struggling through a dark time right now and this is exactly what I needed.
Thank you. I think you've served quite a few of us with your helpful rubric.
Praying for you as you recover. Please give yourself the grace of time to regain your health. It's not always mind over matter. Sometimes the body just needs more time to heal.
I use "fix" very loosely. It can mean mend, or organize, or fix up something that needs tweaking--like a messy drawer. Anything I've been putting off, or that needs doing.
This is helpful as I finally see the light of day after our whole family got smacked with the flu this past week/weekend/last week. I'm still tired but my recovery hasn't been too difficult this time. This is also a perfect rubric for dealing with pregnancy fatigue or other illnesses!
Love the rubric! Will adapt it to my purposes (cooking is men's work in this household but I could do with an "organize something" item).
Und weiterhin gute Besserung!
Okay, honestly ... with our life right now (5 kids and special needs) ... I can't even accomplish that when I'm healthy. Beginning to feel discouraged.
Dear anonymous commenter, I think you need to reinterpret your days! If you are caring for five children, I am absolutely positive that you are already doing everything on this list that's important (sewing is my thing, it may not be yours). I'm sure that you are already cooking something, cleaning up little ones, fixing their troubles, reading them stories, and serving your heart out. Don't be hard on yourself, and don't be discouraged! You're way ahead of this list.
