Scottish artists bring to mind Alexander McCall Smith's Isabel Dalhousie series, a series you too might enjoy Anna.They are set in modern-day Edinburgh, Isabel is first a philosopher, then something of a conundrum solver and a fan of the arts of Scotland.
I like these very much.

Rose, I'll look for them. I've had McCall Smith recommended many times, for the African detective novels.
McCall Smith is very prolific but also a quality writer. I'm not a fan of The Ladies Detective Agency series (the African ones), but I enjoy the Isabel Dalhousie series very much and quite like the Scotland Street series. He worked as a professor of medical law for many years so he brings an interesting and informed background to his writing.
