Daisy Shows Her Chickens

4H continues to bless Daisy with opportunities to get out there and do new things. Like show her chickens in a poultry competition.

She entered a single hen, an Araucana pair, and a cheery trio of Barred Rock hens.

All of this was new to us, and I was so proud of this formerly painfully-shy child who's learned so much confidence.

Although, she confessed, her thumbnails are bitten just a little low tonight.

Next time she probably won't be so nervous.

It's nice that she was able to show them. At our local County Fairs in NYS, they didn't allow any chickens this year because of the bird flu epidemic, even though NY isn't an infectious area at this time. It's sad because I've seen what a wonderful experience it is for my friend's children to raise & show their birds. I'm glad Daisy will get to experience it.

Good for you Daisy, that's brave! I wonder what your chickens thought of the experience. Did you know that in Australia we call hens "chooks"?

Good for Daisy! As the mother of a formerly painfully-shy child I celebrate with you. It's wonderful to see them blossom.

My daughter raised rabbits when she was growing up. She determined to be an expert on rabbits and she gained so much confidence. It was so much fun when she showed them at the fair.

Her chickens are beautiful! Every new experience helps build the self-confidence, brick by brick. Good for her.

It's wonderful that her relationships with her animals have helped her to come out of herself.
