Log Cabin Quilt: Dakota Sandstone

Clara and I made this quilt as a wedding gift for her geologist friend who was getting married . . . to another geologist.

He's from the Black Hills of South Dakota, so we drew our color inspiration from images of the layers of sandstone there.

Tans, faded purples, rusty pinks.

"And that house did not fall, for it had been founded upon the rock."

One of the most beautiful quilts you and Clara have made. It must be the colors and the verse!

It is absolutely swoon-worthy! I enjoy the Bible verses you pick out for each special quilt.

The colour combination is perfect and the verse apt and hope-filled - a very lovely wedding gift.

I really like this one! There seem to be a lot of florals in the lighter in-between parts, which make it unusual (I think). Such a nice idea.

What a perfect verse, and a beautiful quilt!
Are you still making your quilts from scraps, or do you ever have to go out and buy the specific colors you need to get the effect you want?

Wendi, it's still scraps, all the way. I just buy a length for the back.

This might be my favorite of your quilts. Something about those colors and that verse are so inspiring to me.

Where do you find all your scraps? And even more important to me, how do you organize them and/or decide you have enough for a quilt. I've recently inherited several boxes of scraps and I'm desperate for organization strategies and yardage requirements for quilts. As a side note, I've been reading your blog for years and am always uplifted and rejuvenated after visiting. The glimpses of life you present are so beautiful and authentic. Thanks!
