Good Work
We hosted a long-planned weekend that started Friday, and included an extended cast of young adult friends of the family. Some slept here, some at the Stone House, some at The Meadows with Molly and Felix. We ate together, prayed together, worshipped together, and worked together (painting, gardening, mulching, etc.) And talked together!
From Friday dinner to this morning's brunch, I calculated that I served 140 meals. Fortunately, this evening, when we were on our own, there were plenty of leftovers.

Does that mean, with five meals, you had seventy people coming and going??

140 meals! How do you do that? I get nervous when I have more than ten people to feed . . .
I made six meals for twenty people each time, and two meals for ten.
Oh, I would love the details! Menus and logistics...just like the GLH Recreation parties with a maple cake, iced and put on the pantry shelf. Happy sigh.
Awesome!
Please tell me that the prepping was done in three kitchens, not just one.
It seems, from the reading of this blog, that you have been steadily prepared for these large groups. What I'm wondering is - what's next? ;-)

Look, I just want to know how you lure people into helping you with mulching.
It's the food, isn't it? Do you just say: hey, lots of meals being served this weekend...with a little tiny footnote that working is also going to happen? Do you call it a "work weekend?" My kids' friends are between the ages of 6-10 so that's not going to help us now, but it's never too early for me to start getting pointers!;)
Sounds like a wonderful weekend.....and to have the blessing of leftovers at the end is great.
I think you need a standing ovation.
☺
I so enjoy hearing these stories of hosting others, because hosting is something I want to be doing more but I get easily intimidated by the prospect.
I seriously admire you so much! I love your consistency and how you order your life so that you can get a lot done with a joyful, festive spirit. I've read your blog off and on for years (probably since close to the beginning). Thanks for your inspiring example and inspiration!
