Hotpads and a Giveaway
For years I have loved a green and red vintage tablecloth. In its heyday it actually went on the table. Then it went out on yard picnics with the girls. After sustaining a few poorly-mended tears it became Albert's night cloth and covered his birdcage in style. Recently though it gave out badly and came apart in the center. But the margins! They were still good!
I got carried away cutting the good parts up into squares for a big batch of hotpads. It's a beautiful stack, but it's more than I need. So I've decided to celebrate the abundant Hotpad Harvest with a giveaway--I'll send out a little package with a hotpad, a delicious 1940's vintage housedress pattern, and some other goodies. If you're interested, say so in a comment. On Friday I'll pick a name out of a hat, and a little bit of the Schoolhouse will go out in the mail!
I love having readers!
i'd love to get the goodies in the mail... it would be just what I need after being so down. My husband is currently deployed to Iraq, and I have been caring for our 15 month old daughter alone in his absence. As a stay at home mom this leaves little for adult interaction and your blog provides the a great alternative!
ReplyDeleteI'm interested!:-)
ReplyDeleteThey are so pretty! You are just so talented! Blessings!
ReplyDeletePut me in the hat! You are a truly inspiring woman and I've been so blessed by your "scenes" of life and creative home projects. What a fun idea!!
ReplyDeleteoooooh! I'm definately interested. I notice there are strawberries on those hotpads and I have a strawberry girl!!! It's hard to compete with a woman whose husband is deployes to Iraq though! (Blessings to you Lacey, I will pray for his safe and swift return. Thank you for the sacrifice you are making for our freedom!)
ReplyDeleteOn another note, I thought of you today as I discovered a blog dedicated to Grace Livingston Hill. If you haven't already heard of it, go check it out. I think it's right up your alley and you could add so much to it.

Of course I am interested!

ReplyDeleteWould you mind posting a quick explanation of how you made these? Is there some kind of batting between the outer layers? I have a stack of vintage dishcloths that are too worn for regular dishwashing, and I've been looking for the perfect way to use them in another way. I love your idea!
Oh, I'd love to get counted in on this drawing. I love your blog and the many neat things you make!
ReplyDeleteWhat a generous offer. I would love to be included in the draw. Thanks so much Anna.

ReplyDeleteI pop in here daily for a fresh dose of the Schoolhouse. It's like having a neighbor just over the back fence. :o)
Though this dust-covered-Bernina-owning-sewing-challenged Mama would LOVE to own one of your beautiful creations... I say give it to Lacey, the first commenter!
ReplyDeleteI create with paintbrush and oils or watercolor. Would LOVE to peek over your shoulder to see exactly how to sew beautiful things other than the funky polar fleece scarves I have made. You are a true artist with needle and thread!
~KatherineJ

ReplyDeleteThe cloth is so beautiful.
Ohhhh, pick me, pick me!!!!! I would love to be in the drawing too. Can hardly wait until Friday.
ReplyDeleteJulie P.
I would love a chance to have a little bit of the Schoolhouse in my home. I am amazed at how similar we are. I made chili one night, only to discover you had done the same. I love Cath Kidston & decorate w/ red & green. But last night, I was pinning bias tape on a hot pad I 'm making out of a quilt block I "inherited" from a country neighbor.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to be in the drawing too please! Your work is lovely.
ReplyDeleteThrow my name in the hat!
ReplyDeleteChristian
hmmmm...my link doesn't want to show up for some reason.
ReplyDeletetonia @ thesacredeveryday.com
Thanks!
I read your blog daily and love your photos, recipes, sewing and housekeeping hints. Please add my name to the list.
ReplyDeleteBarbara
I Am Interested!
ReplyDeleteA while back my daughter showed me your site to share something that you had sewn (she found out about your sewing on Sense & Sensibility) and both she and I have been back several times to see how you've been inspired.
I am impressed to see what you can do with your time-and have a blog on top of it all. I do try to get food on the table for 9, clean laundry, teach a bit and maintain a slight sense of order in my home and them am often too tired to create-even though I would love to do more.
Cheryl
What a great idea! Put my name in the hat too please. Kim

Me too! If this shows up 3 times, I'm really not trying to rig it, just having some trouble with my account. :)
ReplyDeleteAnyway, they're so pretty! And what a great idea.
Add my name to the hat too, please. I love reading your blog, and the photography is wonderful. Your vintage sewing projects always make me want to run to the fabric store, and I'm hoping after this new baby arrives (#5!) I'll have time for some more sewing for both me and my two girls.
ReplyDeleteAdd my name to the hat!! This is fun!
ReplyDeleteAdd my name to the hat, please. I love coming here to see what you've been cooking/creating. You inspire so many women to do similar things in their own houses.
ReplyDelete~Karen
Just found your blog a week or so ago after friends at church told us they read Pleasant View Schoolhouse blog. So we've been perusing lots of your past posts. You have a nice place here! Please add my name to your drawing; creative idea for making something with your vintage cloth!
ReplyDeleteMy goodness, Anna, I see that you already have 68 comments!!!
ReplyDeleteI am interested, OF COURSE, in your contest. Please add my name.
I thought I posted but wasn't sure it came through and since I don't see it, I will try again. I was commenting on how many readers there are that come to life once something is offered from The Pleasant Schoolhouse! I hope you see what a blessing you are to us as you impart loveliness and inspire us to do the same. Please keep posting more - particularly how you manage to accomplish all that you do (I'm interested in your homeschooling schedule as well). The photos are also very inspiring.
ReplyDeleteGod bless - Barbara in AR
Oh please pick me!! I have been so encouraged by your blog. You encourage me to be a better homemaker...we now clean our homein zones throughout the week before starting our homeschooling day. What a great system! I also love the photos you post...my compliments to your son. Does he take all the photos?

Please add my name to the hat, they are truly beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI don't want to be put into the hat: our family policy is to keep personal information private from internet friends.
ReplyDeleteHowever, count me among your delighted readers.
Jora
I'm interested, too! :)
ReplyDeleteBrenda
What a nice idea! Drop me in the hat! :)
ReplyDeleteI love your blog! It has been an encouragement to me. I would love to be included in your drawing.
ReplyDeleteSheri
I have been reading your blog every day fo the past couple months. I aspire to be awife like you someday, although right now my life is much more eclectic than yours.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to be in the drawing, and wanted to actually post a comment to say what a wonderful positive blog you have without excluding anyone who simply wants a beautiful life regardless of personal choices or religion.
Megan M
Hello Anna'
ReplyDeletePlease put me in the hat! Ilove strawberries, and have done my kitchen in them. Your blog is always such an inspiration.........I love to frequent it!

Kate

ReplyDeleteThanks!
Jen
The hot pads are so pretty. Yes, please, do sign me up for the drawing, too! Thanks, Anna!
ReplyDeleteHi from Northern Ontario Canada. I would LOVE to win goodies from The Schoolhouse. We own the original log schoolhouse for our area built in 1899 so we also have an appreciation for all things old. Your potholders would be cherished!! Love your blog!
ReplyDeleteWOW! 90 Comments. I hope you are able to pick just the right people to bless. They are beautiful. :)
ReplyDeleteCount me in please!
ReplyDeleteCount me in....they look wonderful! Your blog is always such an inspiration to me!
ReplyDeletePlease count me in too! Your site is wonderful. I appreciate your thoughtful and intelligent posts. The photography is also excellent. I've been enjoying your site for several months now. Thank you for introducing me to Grace Livingston Hill, your Excellent Chicken Salad and knitting, just to name a few.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! Put Lacey's name in the drawing in place of mine. (My husband was in Desert Storm, and I was home alone with 3 little ones. It's really hard.) She deserves something special.:>)
ReplyDeleteI'll just steal your idea! LOL
And my mother introduced me to Grace Livingston Hill when I was a teen. I still pull out a book when I want to read something light and fun. Crimson Roses and White Orchids are two of my favorites. But then I like Spicebox, and...well, I'll stop!
Please add me to the hat. I read your blog everyday and love looking at the wonderful photos your son takes. Thank you for all your amazing ideas, they truly motivate me.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful idea! Perhaps you should read the book "Something from Nothing" to your family. It's very sweet and your post has reminded me of it.
ReplyDeleteGoodness Anna! What a following you have! It is a joy to know how you have positively influenced the lives of so many - you are indeed a blessing!
ReplyDeleteI too would be interested to know how you have insulated the pot holders - I have used special quilted heat resistant fabric but it was terribly hard to sew and very costly. Everything else I have tried simply allows the heat right through!
I love recycling fabrics and if I can find a tablecloth or bridge set that is good but for one stain or tear, I like to make the good into something new and useful!
They are beautiful! I would love to be entered into your contest. I enjoy your blog so much.
ReplyDeleteKelli
Your blog is a continuous inspiration to me and has inspired me to start a blog of my own which is just in the beginning stages. Thank you for the opportunity to enter my name in your contest! Keep up the fantastic creativity!
ReplyDeleteSincerely,
Lynne
You probably shouldn't put me in as I'm in the UK but I wanted to post to say that I love your blog. It is my moment of serenity and inspiration in the midst of days of trying to turn a new house into a home.
ReplyDeleteSarah
Hello Anna!
ReplyDeleteI'd love for my name to be put in the hat as well! Thanks for your generous spirit and lovely blog!

Ladies, thank you so much for your overwhelming interest! So everyone can rest easy, I'll announce right here and now that Lacey (see first comment) wil be getting her very own special package with a hotpad and some other surprises, and won't need to depend on the good favor of the hat!
ReplyDeleteDrawing at noon on Friday!
Oh, how fun! Please add me to the list!
ReplyDeleteI like the hotpads! They are so pretty! I am interested!
ReplyDeleteKathy Frazier

Oh my-- as my sweet sister, Victoria (who has commented also) just said to me on the phone... I would love to have the goodies (they are very beautiful), but I don't know if I could deny lacey@mesarchik them! So maybe you could put another piece of paper with her name on it in the hat instead of mine? I love your site!
ReplyDeletePrecious! Just what I need for my red kitchen. Please add my name to the hat as well...
ReplyDeleteAnnouncing the 123rd...
ReplyDeleteI like potholders and strawberries and red and green all in a tumble. (Judging by the numbers, I guess half of the world does, too.)

Best wishes to you...

hi-
ReplyDeleteI was just checking to see if my last comment showed up which it didn't so I'm entering again if it's not too late. I LOVE your beautiful blog with inspirational tidbits. Thanks!
Rain
Anna! I am tickled you have so many comments! I am probably too late for the drawing since I had computer problems all week, but that's okay. I still wanted to comment to say how much I appreciate your blog. When I discovered it last spring, I immediately read the entire archives! It has been such an encouragement, inspiration, and blessing to me. Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteLovely hotpads!
