I've used this pattern before to make aprons for my big girls, but got the itch to make a tiny bright smock for Daisy on Saturday morning and pulled it out again.
I had some very retro-looking silky pink cotton (what a pink! shades of strawberry and mango), and bright yellow binding--great combination.
It's precious. She wore it to church Sunday over her pretty dress and has scarcely taken it off since then. The pocket is large, and perfect for holding tiny babies, socks, yarn, and snacks.
I had something just like this when I was a little girl! Oh, how I wish I could sew... it would be the perfect addition to my baby's wardrobe!

So sweet. Where do you get all of your fabrics? I love all the florals, strawberries and retro fabrics you use.
ReplyDeleteI have this pattern but I haven't actually used it yet. It looks wonderful for a little person.
ReplyDeleteI bought this pattern to make for my grandbabies! When I was a little girl, my grandma made these for me and my siblings for Christmas one year. I, too, loved the pockets for carrying things!
ReplyDeleteAs usual, you did a lovely, lovely job.
I had to laugh at the pockets contents. My little girl carries around clothepins and washcloths (never know when a table might need polishing or a stray baby might need to be put to bed!).
ReplyDeleteLittle girl pockets are almost as fun as little boy pocket contents, but are usually not alive - extra bonus!

Mrs. Bonnie, I made the same version as you have for my daughter! Yes, all that binding took a while, but it was so worth the trouble. It's a great apron and covers her well. I just hope she doesn't grow out of it too soon!! (Hint: you can use Elmer's Blue gel school glue--NOT the white stuff--to glue on lace and binding to cut down on the pins!)
ReplyDeleteYou certainly have a knack for finding great fabrics!!!
ReplyDeleteI would love to know how you accomplish so much in a week! Do you schedule daily sewing time? Are your children self motivated to get their schoolwork done or do they require a lot of your time and direction? Do you have a live in maid service? Are you a super fast sewer? I am very amazed and encouraged to try harder to find time for more of the things that make my heart sing - like sewing! Perhaps as the children mature we will find a better balance!
ReplyDeleteHeather--I want to address your scheduling questions soon in a longer post. I wouldn't want anyone getting the idea I'm superwoman! I do try to do something fun every day--I usually get a few minutes late in the afternoon, before dinner prep, and then again around the middle to late evening, after Daisy is in bed. If I don't do something creative every day, I tend to grump, so it's in everyone's best interest!
ReplyDeleteI was beginning to wonder if you had a superwoman costume - 30's style of course! hidden beneith your lovely cotton day dresses! I need help scheduling, so I do look forward to your post! Thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteOh, how cute! I am inspired to make something like it for my daughter. Of course, all your sewing projects inspire me....
ReplyDeleteMy 8 year old daughter had "apron" on her Christmas wish list so I made her one. Then my sister brought me the same pattern in your post. I was looking forward to making one but after reading in the comments about the binding I may put it off awhile. :) Are there tricks to binding? I've not used it before.
