Though I may get distracted momentarily, I never really take my mind off the search for a Real Hooverette. This may be it.
Because look--it wraps in the front, has pockets with trim, suggestions for organdy ruffles, and is comfortable to work in.
Can you see how the half-belt comes out of the front princess seam?
It finishes in back with a fabric-covered buckle which I made non-functioning. Can't function because if it does, that charming fabric cover will come off.
We took pictures down at the barn this afternoon just to enjoy the green and red together.
Which is also the reason I put my farmer's market lettuce in a red basket.
Envisioning a happy future with a few more of these . . . .
Gorgeous photos - I love that color on you.
ReplyDeleteThat green reminds me of all the beautiful "baby" greens around the garden/yard. I love the idea of wearing dresses more, especially working around the garden, but I seem to be more of an overalls shape. I'm satisified though by seeing your beautiful creations!
ReplyDeleteLove your new blog picture .... and that color is stunning.
ReplyDeletecheery dress indeed. love those giles photos here and in the last post with daisy! (I am assuming they are giles photos, anyhow, in this one...)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the continuing inspiration...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful color on you!
ReplyDeleteThose colours are simply delicious!
ReplyDeleteOH, I love that dress, you look lovely in it!
ReplyDeleteLove the polka dots! The green and white makes such a fresh, crisp look. :-)
ReplyDeleteoooh! pretty... i adore those old mail order patterns♥ i love to think of some farmer's wife sending off a few coins, and being contented to wait for several weeks to receive the pattern- then she still had to make the garment! what a contrast from today when i get irritated if i have to wait a week for something;)
ReplyDeleteoh, you may be interested in a vintage sewing give away i'm having on my blog- oodles of vintage-y items such as cotton and rayon rick-rack and bias trim, buttons... and even a pristine apron pattern from the 50's. with a rooster embroidery transfer! today is the very last day to enter though;)
Oh wow. I am drooling over that dress. Beautiful color. :)
ReplyDeleteLove that dress on you! So feminine and practical at the same time. Great job!
ReplyDeleteCharming! I love green. And welcome back, Giles!
ReplyDeleteWho knew a "house dress" could be so fetching?
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful Anna :) The pictures are wonderful and you truly look beautiful. I think of a gentle and quiet spirit. Your sewing talents never cease to amaze me :)
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful day and thanks for sharing :)

Love your new profile portrait. Thanks, Giles! :)
ReplyDeleteI love that dress!!!
ReplyDeleteNice to have Giles home to take pics = ))
I loved all the pictures, but in the close up of your face, I saw Daisy in every feature!
ReplyDeleteI am happy to see you used it as your profile picture.
Your new profile picture is lovely! Welcome home Giles.
ReplyDeleteNow, you don't have to tell if it's your own little secret. But, do you REALLY wear a dress while doing housework? Gardening? Cleaning the bathroom? I'm mean, I like the idea, but I guess I'm not that commited to dresses. I wish I was...but sometimes pants are really all I want to be in. I'm hopeing you'll share that you, too, wear pants sometimes?
ReplyDeleteI wear jeans if I'm going to be scrubbing on my hands and knees--which is not that often! But cleaning a bathroom, vacuuming, dusting--who needs pants for that? I'm so much more comfortable in a skirt. I usually just throw on junky shoes with my skirt to garden.
ReplyDeleteLOVE this dress!!! Oh to sew like you! I know, I know... you will say something along the lines of "practice, practice, practice"! :)
ReplyDeleteThe photos are SO pretty!! Does your son have a blog? I'd love to see what he's been shooting lately.
Also, where did you get your shoes? They look really cute!

I love the green and red theme - and polka dots are adorable no matter the vintage of the pattern they are sewn into - those they certainly lend themselves to vintage best of all! Very bright and cheery!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful, cheery dress!
ReplyDeleteYou look great in your new dress. How talented you are! I'll bet more women would wear dresses regularly if they could find (or sew) ones as lovely as that.
ReplyDeleteAnna, I ♥ this pattern you found! Would you share how much you paid for it? Was it super duper expensive to buy? Thank you!
ReplyDeletePS I know it's rude to ask, it's just that I have been searching for a similar housecoat type dress pattern for ages, and few I do find are very $$$.
Hello!
ReplyDeleteI have been a lurker for a loooong time and finally thought I would come on out for a comment! I am absolutely loving that green. What a talent it is to be able to sew such beautiful things. :-)
It suits you perfectly. I love it!
ReplyDeleteGiles is home! And we're so happy! We LOVE his photography, and wish he'd sell prints that could be framed and hung on our walls!
ReplyDeleteYour dress is beautiful--and honestly, so are you. You can see the joy in your eyes.

My grandmother used to wear these aprons! I would love to make this, although I might look as good in it as you. Did you change the pattern to make it into this dress? Where would I be able to find a pattern at, if you don't mind me asking.
ReplyDeleteSincerely,

Oops! That woman!!LOL I meant to say I might NOT look as good!
ReplyDeleteMaria, I bought the pattern at a small on-line pattern store (sorry I can't remember which!), for about $25, which is a lot more than I usually pay, but this type of dress is really rare and desirable. I sewed it up exactly according to the pattern. It's not an apron at all, it's just called one!
ReplyDeleteYou are such a beauty. Enjoy your
ReplyDeleteNewest love.
