A Wool Plaid Capelet

How long have I been wanting to sew a scallop-edged garment? So long. This is a wool capelet that floats over the shoulders and ties at the sweet front of your little girl. It's lined in soft corduroy and scalloped All The Way Around.

I made one for Daisy, and one for the shop.

I love how Daisy immediately made herself a brooch and pinned it on. It appears to be the plastic base of some old fake flowers (her favorite thrift store treat), pinned on unapologetically with a big safety pin. Not for sale.

  2. Daisy has an eye for What Will Work at such a young age! (Love the capelet, too!)

  4. Darling, just darling. Does Daisy want to pop over and teach my kids how to make her brooch. I think my kids would love to know how.

  5. She looks like she was made for that brown linen dress and green plaid wool cape, and the pin which looks kind of like berries - just as if she's come out of the forest!
    A delightful combination.

  7. Just lovely, both Daisy and the cape. The cape goes so well with the dress you recently made for Daisy. The pin is sweet as well.

  11. Yes, the brooch is a perfect topping for the capelet - Daisy seems to be developping a sense of style. No wonder, in such stylish environment which I come to your blog to get a dose of almost every day!

  13. Well, the joke is on me. I accidentally shipped Daisy's capelet WITH THE PIN ON IT to the etsy buyer. Hope she enjoys!

  14. It's really cute. I didn't notice that the pin was sort of a funky little girl thing until you described what it was made from. I thought it was pretty.

Also, I bought the 5966 pattern to make for my granddaughter, who is the same age and tall, skinny size as your Daisy. Isn't that a mouthful, run-on sentence. Anyway--did you lengthen size 2 for her 5-year-old frame or not? I need to know so that I can sew it as a surprise for my little Gayle's birthday January 6. Please, let me know.

  15. Yes, I cut out the size 5 length and didn't find it long enough without the ruffle. So add that length in there!

  17. I would also love to know what pattern you used - I have a very finicky 3 year old who refuses to wear pants and everything has to be fancy and girl.....I believe her and daisy would get along fabulously.....thanks!
