When Clara uncovered Albert's cage this morning he was not well. Then, as birds do, he failed quickly and died in the middle of the morning, in the shoebox set up for his comfort, with a spray of millet and his beloved mirror.
Clara kept vigil beside him until he was gone, then turned immediately to her music.
Just last night at dinner the Composer had remarked on how much Albert had to say. That was always true. And always such beautiful feathers.
I'm so sorry to hear about your Albert. Our very similar-looking parakeet (Sky) died before Christmas and we all still miss him. He was quite clever and made a sound just like the front doorknob squeaking and also barked occasionally like our Chihuahua. I am still surprised at how much I miss him.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry. The loss of a pet is hard.
ReplyDeleteAnna, I'm so sorry for this loss. It's amazing how our little feathered friends can bring such joy to our lives. I used to have parakeet and canaries. I bred red factor (bright beautiful red) canaries. Their music filled the house in such an amazing way. But when they die, you just can't help feeling like somehow you failed them in some unknown way. That's why I don't have any anymore. but I do miss their chatter.
ReplyDeleteAwe a sad story but beautifully shared...
ReplyDeletePoor Albert. I know he'll be given the burial of a beloved family member.
ReplyDeleteI am very sorry for the loss of your faithful friend. He was a lovely bird, and so amusing.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry, last year our zebra finches passed away, one about a month after the other. I did love their song in the morning.
ReplyDeleteI'm very, very sorry about Albert. Our little animal companions leave such a hole in the family when they're gone. My condolences.

Oh, my, how truly awful. Amazing how these little creatures capture our hearts!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry. :-(
ReplyDeleteI am sorry for the loss of your pet. My father had a parakeet named "Buddy-Bird" who was such a little feathered friend to him. He got a special burial.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry Anna.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to read of Albert's passing - I'm sure you'll miss him and his friendly chit chat. We have a very vocal cat and would miss him too if he passed away.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry for your's and your family's loss. We are going through a hard time with our dog Bubbie right now. Saying a prayer for you all and sending a big hug too.

Lovely Vintage Cottage Life
The gossamer over Clara's hands is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteas a teen i had a yellow canary named Pete. One of his legs was backward, and so he was purchased for a song (ugh, pun intended).
When he died I couldn't bear to part with him, so put him in the deep freeze, with every intention of having him meet the taxidermist.
My mother finally disposed of Pete 2 summers ago...30 years later.

ReplyDeleteThey can add so much to your life. It is definitely a loss when they're gone. Albert was a gift.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry for your loss. I hope Clara's music helped to lift her spirits a little.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, Anna. Hopefully Frederick will become more vocal now so that Albert's voice won't be missed so much.

ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear that you lost Albert. My grandparents lost their parakeet that looked exactly like Albert several years ago. I actually didn't even realize you had any other birds except Fredrick.
ReplyDeleteOh Anna~Sending hugs for all of you and prayers that God will hold you close. Sorry about losing your sweet Albert. May God give you many fond remembrances of Albert.

ReplyDeleteSo sorry for the loss...I've never had a pet bird but I'm sure you will miss him like I have missed my doggies over the years.
