Scrap Quilting in Yellow

My sturdy sewing machine is home from a few weeks at the machine spa getting rehabbed, so it's been a while since I had machine-quilting abilities. The pieced projects piled up in the meantime, and it was fun yesterday to get started on them. First up, because I knew it would be quick, is this baby quilt pieced in cream, yellow, and a tiny bit of gray and rose.

Next up, I will get my nephew's quilt finished. He's been waiting patiently since we worked together on piecing it in July!

Lovely! I'm working on a pieced yellow quilt too, for the bedroom.

Do you pre-cut all your scraps to a specific size? Or do you cut scraps when you begin a quilt?

I was just thinking how nice it would be to spend some time in the sewing room each morning. Your quilt is lovely.

I'm so curious, what type of sewing machine do you have? I am in the process of buying my own machine, and I'm overwhelmed by the choices. Are there any features you would say are a must?

Anna, is there a size you prefer for your squares on a scrap quilt? I am gearing up to try one and wonder what would be a good size. thanks so much for letting us into your life.

Praise the King!

Scrap size: 3 x 3. I used to save up all the pieces then get to cutting when I was ready to make a quilt. Now I often cut out squares as I generate scraps. It makes it seem so much less daunting.

Sewing machine features: much on my mind as I've struggled with an old machine the last two weeks. Must-haves for me? Automatic buttonhole function, the ability to stop with the needle down, speed control, easy bobbin removal. Those are all basic these days, I think (except maybe the buttonhole). I sew on a Brother that's not made anymore, but is a mid-range machine ($250 reconditioned).

Hey Anna!

I absolutely love your blog as it feels like a little piece of heaven everytime I open it up! I was curious as to which kind of batting you use in your quilts. I have never tried to attempt one but love yours so much that I am willing to try! Thanks for the wonderful blog!

I like cotton the best--it's thinner and floppier. But I will use poly if it's what I have on hand and I'm not feeling particular. I've never tried wool, but I imagine it's nice and warm!
