Love that she is still holding that little fuzzy blankie!! She continues to grow in 'brain and beauty' and I know you are grateful for all of these precious children!!
What are some of your favorite books for this age? My daughter is 5 1/2 and is a beginning reader but it is amazing how quickly they move along. We have some Betsy Tacy books but I feel it'll be awhile before she can read those on her own. I read them to her. Any other advice / suggestions for this age/stage? Thanks! Kathy
I think she's got Ralph S. Mouse here, which is by Beverly Cleary.
Kathy, how about the first Boxcar Children book, and Little House in the Big Woods? Or shorter and easier, Arnold Lobel's Frog and Toad books. Anyone else?
Oh how sweet. She is the same age as my third boy and I love seeing what she is up to. My son (two of them) have dyslexia and so, those books aren't on the docket yet for him, but he'll get there!
Congratulations on having such a book loving family and encouraging your children to read. My youngest has learning disabilities and hates to read, but we are really working on it this year.
Kathy: we loved Carolyn Haywood's books ("B is for Betsy" and the Eddies). Easy but VERY fun reads. She wrote many, many books if you are fortunate to live near a library that still has the oldies ... 1940s...on their children's shelves.
If you can find Uncle Wiggily...do!
Maybe a bit older, definitely for read-alouds: The original Mrs. Piggle Wiggle books by Betty McDonald (not those written by Mrs. McDonald's daughter at a later date) have such humor, zest, and delicious made-up names. Solutions to childhood/parenting do involve impossible magic.
Anne. Such a wonderful sweet picture. I love the pictures you put up of everyone. Daisy is always a little favorite because she is my Children's age. (I love to see what the others are doing for older inspiration.)
We like all the books you mentioned. Box Car and Little House is a favorite here. For boys, we like the Sugar Creek Gang!
What happened to your baby? She looks all grown up here!
ReplyDeleteWow, what a young lady all of a sudden. Beautiful!

Little Daisy is quite a precocious reader taking on that book at her age!
ReplyDeleteShe looks like she has made some very good friends here... The kind that last a lifetime.
Looks like she's reading Beverly Cleary. Those were my favorite books when I was a her age. What a sweet little lady!
