"[Emily read that] Browning's schooling, which had been irregular, ended with a single term at London University, but ' . . . his education then was just beginning and was to last through a long lifetime of eager, wide and absorptive culture until death itself.'
Emily wrote down that phrase, 'eager, wide and absorptive culture.'
'That's what I'm going to try for,' she thought."
--Maud Hart Lovelace, Emily of Deep Valley

Love this quote. I read all the Betsy-Tacy books when I was in high school and have re-read some since I was an adult. So wise and wonderful. Thanks for the memory. Happy Easter Anna and family.

ReplyDeleteLovelovelove "Emily of Deep Valley"! I have fond memories of checking and re-checking it out of the school library @ 5th-6th grade. It was a cozy read yet again this winter. :-)
