A Fourth of July at Home

Cooking and tidying up for a dinner with friends--

Watering this and that and the hydrangeas--

A little paper-flag-making--

Then potluck and swimming and town fireworks.

  1. Sounds like a lovely way to spend the day, Anna.

We have fond memories of the only 4th of July we've had occasion to celebrate, whilst we were visiting the US last year. Denver put on quite a storm to match up with the fireworks.

  9. Question:

Regarding modesty: do you rethink modest wear (become less strict) during those hot summer days? Do you allow sleeveless then?

  10. That first picture is perfect- I especially love Daisy's hat. Sounds like a very nice 4th of July!

  11. Ok - it's settled. You need to do a daytimer calendar. the first pic? with Daisy? Indulgent and unexpected and wonderful. Love your blog, Anna. I've seen many try to copy (including me!) but you're an original!

  12. Love her interpretation of the flag, very Monet. :) Looks like her hair goes pretty light in the summer. Those are very nice photos.

  13. I'm glad you had a nice day! Daisy looks so sweet and festive in her hat!:0)

What have you been up to the last few days? Is Felix back from Costa Rica?

  14. Farrah, yes, Felix is back. It's good to have him in the house. Inga, we so don't have strict "rules" that anyone in the house has to follow regarding their clothes. We simply try to dress decently and with dignity. So yes, when the weather warrants it, we often wear sleeveless things.

  15. Anna,
I thought I should let you know that I am frequent reader of your blog. I read it at least every couple days, but I've never commented before (that I remember). I want to get better about not just reading people's blogs without commenting! So anyway, thank you for your lovely blog. :)

  16. Anna,

I also love that first picture. Your daughter is so adorable. I am also drooling over your table. Would you share where you acquired such a lovely farm house table.

    Thanks,
    Rean Day

  17. I'm sure God doesn't think that sleeveless clothes are immodest. I think it depends on the design and fabrics used. I remember as a little girl having lovely cotton summer dresses, sleeveless but with a built up neckline, nothing immodest about that. As an adult you can have a similar design. I really can't see any objection to bare arms.
