New territory for Clara and for me--the removal of stubborn wallpaper and the creation of a smooth wall for painting. We did the steamer thing for two days, then took a break to catch our breaths. Up next, sanding, then mudding the sheetrock. I think it will be like frosting a cake, but the Composer says that he'd better do that part.
Fine with me! I'll give any of this work away to anyone who will take it. Which reminds me that it's time for Clara to hone her color-choosing and paint-applying skills. It's her room, anyway!
Yes, Anna - let your husband do the smoothing out of the wall. My brother did that; I don't think I could have. There's a product called Piranha (I think) which is a gel, and makes the wallpaper come off easier when applied. It seems to work pretty well. I know nothing of the steam method - it seems exhausting work for summertime!

I still remember the first time I was allowed to paint my own room. I chose a color called "Glow Worm". I loved it and never got tired of it. It reminded me of the way white looks under black lights.
ReplyDeleteOoo! That's always so exciting! I am sure whaterver she chooses will turn out lovely!

Getting a smooth surface for painting might be one of the lower levels of Dante's hell, in my personal opinion ;D But your husband is probably a lot better at it than I am!
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, a few cans of orange peel spray give the wall a nice, even texture. Or cheap old paneling, when painted, gives the feel of bead-board. Just options...
Whatever you all end up with will be beautiful, I'm sure :D
I love the quiet simplicity in your home. No doubt Clara will use her understated style to create a peaceful haven for herself. Which reminds me, she is really turning into your twin in her newest photo. I've always thought she resembled your husband in photos, but lately she appears like your little replica. Hope you are enjoying your summer!

Painting prep....yes, I am going to be helping my daughter with that in a few weeks at her sorority house bedroom. (She and her roommate are going to do the actual painting.) They are doing bright yellow and white with tulle and twinkle light decorations.
ReplyDeleteYour post is helping me get in the propper mood!
Uhgg....we've done that also. It was a 120 year old house with wallpaper that was one with the wall. We sanded until we were the color of the wallboard. Probably not too good on the lungs, huh? Sheetrocking is difficult, I'd let the Composer do it,too!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing the color/s she chooses.
I can't wait to see the end result!
ReplyDeleteHow exciting! And how fun for you to see all that Clara will choose to represent herself in her new room.
