Oil Painting: White Orchids

Continuing to love my Tuesday evenings in the painting studio. This started out being about the pink lilies you see in the background, then turned out to be about the white orchids you see in the foreground.

  1. Very nice! I love the blue too...it really brings out the white orchids.

  2. Oils aren't the most forgiving medium are they. I particularly like what you've done with the terracotta pot and the leaves, the detail and shading is well executed.

  3. funny how subjects can insist on themselves :) The painting is lovely.

I just watched the movie "Words and Pictures" and found it fascinating as an English teacher who loves words. You may find it fascinating as a wordsmith AND a painter (and really, as movies go, I was favorably impressed with the characterization, plot, humor, and pathos).

  7. Very nice! I love the flowers against the blue background. Are those acrylics? Are you taking an art class?

  8. Thanks, all. These are oils. I go to a painting group once a week--more a club than a class, but help is available. It's wonderful. Margo, thanks for the recommendation!

  9. Lovely!! Finn is just starting a painting class, working with acrylics. He told me recently that it's much better than drawing class "because if you make a mistake, you paint right over it!" huh. Well, I guess so!
