Lots of Tuesday nights I show up at the painting studio hoping that our instructor has brought something to paint. Tonight it was a vase of coleus foliage. I've never grown nor painted coleus, but it was kind of fun. You get in there with the red and the green.

Lovely, Anna. Can I just say that one of the things I really like in your painting is the way you render glass. It's extremely difficult to do well and you definitely have the touch. I was a full time art student many years ago :) Angela
It's lovely! I've grown an assortment of coleus in two big urns on the front porch the last several summers, but this year, I haven't managed to get to the nursery yet, so I'm mourning their absence. Coleus are very easy to grow, very forgiving if you forget to water them, even though they wilt horribly when they're thirsty. I love their rich colors and the many ways the green and reds combine in the different specimens. It's a great way to add a pop of pizazz on a porch or patio.
Coleus are so easy to grow. Easy to propogate when they get "leggy". Look for King Kong varieties known for the size of their leaves. We often grow this type, solely because my kids love the name.....

I love your rendition of the coleus but I am captivated by the soft colors in the background. Brava.
Easy to grow, not so easy to paint, I'll bet. They look good to me!
