Saturday night a raging thunderstorm rolled in. At 1:00 a.m. I heard the loudest crack of lightning I ever remember. A few minutes later the Composer (who always gets up if there's weather) came back to tell me that our huge red oak tree had been struck by lightning. . .
and had fallen on all three of our cars. Only two are even visible in the picture because Bella's is so thoroughly covered by tree trunk.
Yes, we've got three cars out in the driveway smashed under a tree. Hoping that when the tree guys get them uncovered, there will be one that isn't totaled.
But seriously: we can hardly believe that this monster didn't hit the house. Parts of it were *under* the overhang of the porch roof. Thank you, Lord!
Wow! That's incredible! I'm rejoicing with you at God's protection over you and your home, and hoping for a quick resolution to the car situation. Cars can be replaced; people, not. I'm overwhelmingly thankful you were all spared!
ReplyDeleteGiving thanks to God for His safe-keeping of your family, and I hope you soon have a vehicle for getting around.
ReplyDeletePerhaps a craftsman will make something beautiful with all that red oak wood...
Oh my goodness! Firstly thank God indeed that it didn't fall on the house, secondly comiserations on the loss of your beautiful tree and damage to the cars, thirdly, on a lighter note, at least Daisy's newly errected 'barn'survived intact. I can only imagine the noise the impact made, it must have been quite terrifying. God bless you all and glad you're safe. Angela. x
ReplyDeleteOh Anna, I am so very sorry to hear the tree is on top of the cars. Like you, I am so very thankful to the Lord that you all and the house were not hurt. (MD)
ReplyDeleteOh wow! I'm so sorry! But, praise God that it missed the house and you and your family are unharmed!
ReplyDeleteOH, so sorry to see this! Yes, thank the Lord that you all are safe.
ReplyDeletePraising God that you and your family are safe. That tree could have killed any or all of you had it hit your house. Hopefully, the cars are not all totaled. I had a van totaled by a tree once.
ReplyDeleteGoodness, how usetting and frustrating. Thank god it didnt fall on your house, and that you were safe.
ReplyDeleteIn Australia our gumtrees are prone to dropping like that, some varieties are more likly to drop massive limbs completly out of the blue. Though more so in a storm. Its a frightning thing I think.
xx
So sorry about the cars. ALL three!! That's incredible. But so glad to hear that nothing more important was under that oak. The aerial view really shows the enormity of that tree. Weather is frightening.
ReplyDeleteDad had a huge water oak fall in Charleston a couple months ago. It miraculously missed cars, houses, and humans. (Truly a miracle based on where he lives--a street with many pedestrians.) Still, so scary.
Thankful for your safety!
Scary! Amazing how close it came to you. Thank God for His mercies.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you can make something out of parts of the tree.

Oh my! I am so sorry! So glad all of your people and critters and house is safe! too bad about the cars : /
ReplyDeleteOh man, that's a pain! Southern storms are no joke. I'm glad your house wasn't hit and that you're all okay!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! Like others, sorry about your vehicles (and hoping the insurance company is good to you!), and rejoicing in God's protection of things (people!) that can't be replaced. WOW.
ReplyDeleteHeavens! Thanking God the house was spared and no one was injured!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry for your trouble - this will be quite a bother. But so glad to hear only things were hurt and not people. Still -
ReplyDeleteWell that is a pretty tidy near miss for the house, but I'm sorry about the cars. So glad you were out of harm's way.
ReplyDeletePraising God for His protection over your family and home!
ReplyDeletePraising God for sparing your lives. You are an encouragement to so many.
ReplyDeleteMy reCAPTCHA proof that I'm not a robot was to choose all the images that showed cars. :-0
Praise the Lord that it was directed away from the house and you were all spared! (I see it nipped a few shingles off, though.) Wow! I hope that everyone's car can be replaced/repaired expeditiously and that something beautiful can be done with the fallen tree.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry! A familiar tree can often feel like a lost friend when you lose it. I am praying there will be minimum damage on all of your cars and so thankful all of you and your home are safe!
ReplyDeleteAmy F.
Looking again at how close your trees are to the house reminds me of the October snowstorm we had a few years ago. Watching a tree in our yard leaning so close (it looked that way to us at night, but I don't think it was as bad as it seemed at the time) to our neighbor's house and nothing we could do about it - another which leaned so close to our back awning. I love trees and the more the better! But since then, I see their proximity in a different way.

So sorry to hear of the loss of the tree, Anna, and damages to the vehicles.
ReplyDeleteWe had an enormous old hickory tree in our front yard finally just lay down after a week of heavy rains and flooding last year. It had been leaning hard for many years. It *just* missed our house. We were sad to lose the tree but so many people were so grateful and happy to get that lovely hickory wood! Hopefully your tree may continue to bless others even after its downfall.
God's lessons are just never-ending aren't they.
Hugs to all
