More to Read

Several readers have already stumbled across my second blog, Neat and Dainty as a Flower, devoted to all things Grace Livingston Hill. I thought I would make a general announcement here that it is open for business, though still fairly small. Enjoy!

I have never read anything by Grace Livingston Hill but am most anxious to do so after hearing all the wonderful things about her writings. Of all of her books which one would you suggest I read first, and why? Thanks so much for the imput. Can't wait to start reading!

If I may respond to susan p., my first Grace book was Raibow Cottage. I would also suggest Brentwood, Honor Girl, or Substitute Guest. There are so many more, but these come to mind.

I second Brentwood, and add Re-Creations, The Enchanted Barn, White Orchids, The Honor Girl, or Partners.

Can't find an email for you--I may just be blind. Is it ok that I link to your site in praise of vintage things? Check it out at http://hopewellmomschoolreborn.blogspot.com/

I'm glad you've got the other blog, as well. Yesterday after checking it out I put some GLH books on hold through our library system. Thanks!

Thanks for the link to the other blog!! I have just recently, at your recommendation as well as g.l.h.'s, read my very first Grace Livingston Hill. I found Spice Box on a rare trip to the library. I now see why her books are so well loved! I'm looking forward to reading many more.

Dear Anna,
Thank you so much for introducing me to Grace Livingston Hill. I happened upon your lovely blog a couple of months ago and have been devouring the archives with delight. As soon as I came across your quotes from GLH's novels I made a note of her as an author I just had to read. Here in the UK her work is very little known these days and very hard to obtain. I am sure that that has not always been the case. I have collected 'vintage' books, of the kind that were given as Sunday School prizes, for many years now and I am sure she must have been a popular author over here in the 1920's and 30's - so I have not given up hope of finding some copies in charity shops and second hand book shops. In the meantime, however, my sweet husband has bought me a copy of 'A Girl To Come Home To' one of the very few available via Amazon UK and with the children tucked up in bed and a cup of tea beside me I am about to start reading it!

g.l.h. and Anna, thank you so much for your recommendations. I am now going to dash to the library in hopes they might have one of these "treasures!"

I enjoy this blog so much and am excited to see you have another one! Before I go there to visit I wanted to say I found an older, hardcover copy of "Re-Creations" at a local used book shop. I have just begun it for the first time and it is a treasure! Thanks so much for sharing...

I am a great fan of your blog. I love the simplicity of design, the excellent photography and the lovely things you sew and create. I would love to email you as I need some help finding a 1940's women's black suit for a play I am in. I am not sure the fashion or style I should be looking for. What features should it have? Thank you.

Hello Anna....I am chiming in here to give a greeting as I have peeked in here before loving your homey thoughts. I purchased Honor Girl from Amazon, and I am loving it! Where has this author been all my life?:)
