Sunday Dress: Vintage Simplicity 3749
You've seen this pattern here before; I liked it enough to make it again, this time in a fine pale pink gabardine wool, for Sundays. This time I knew to shorten the bodice before cutting, so the fit is better. Last time I shortened it after constructing the bodice, so the darts were trimmed to a place where they made the waist a little too big. Oh, those unintended consequences!
I just love this fabric, which is very heavy to feel, with lots of body and drape, but is still almost sheer. Once again I enjoyed using pale pink velvet ribbon (a perfect color match!) as a waist stay, and in a place of bias binding to finish the cuffs.
I believe I will make a matching belt.

It's beautiful!! Great work! I wish I had your sewing skills. Makes me want to practice though!

It looks like peppermint fondant...or something pale pink and delicious. I think a matching belt would be lovely.
Mmmm... That collar and those cuffs! Serena's right. It does look good enough to eat! I'm curious, though. How is a wool dress to wear? I admit to being quite ignorant about Proper Dressing. If you have a full slip, won't the sleeves itch? Or would there be a long sleeved silk undershirt and half slip? Or is fine gabardine non-itchy, thus revealing the fullness of my ignorance?
Oh Anna! This is perfect!
Ahhhh...vintage patterns..isn't the cover art wonderful? I just love the posture of these ladies!
Oh, and the dress is very pretty too;-)
Sunday dresses! I love them. Pretty and a little frivolous. No need for complete practicality in the Sunday dress!!!
I love the detail and beauty in the way you finish your work.
How pretty! I really enjoy looking at your finished projects. It inspires me to get busy on my own!
Just beautiful! You are so blessed with your sewing skills and such an inspiration to us. Thank you for sharing. :)
Well done with the dress making. The gingerbread house looks cute!
The dress does look delicious and soft...though, it would be a dream come true to have anything with the waist too big. :)
Oooo, I love the color. Delightful!
So pretty! We are starting our first vintage pattern for my daughter. A 1950's shirt and skirt with suspenders... so far so good! When I complete hers, I have a pattern waiting for me!

If I am correct, I believe this pattern was one that was in a big box of vintage patterns that Mom got from a fundraiser sale. I don't think it was one we picked out to keep though because it wasn't the right size.
